SCORE! OMG, be still my heart. I want one, I want one, I want one. With the possible exception of USS Houston or USS Portland I can't think of a single cruiser I'd rather have in 1/350 plastic. She also had a good number of sisters, if Trumpy wants to do a class a la the Essex class.

My first thought was that I finally get to do the USS New Orleans.
Frank's forgotten sisters campaign is looking better and better.

When I first saw Kenny's teaser "Trumpeter has great news for all you cruiser fans! Check it out." I thought, "If this is another modern "cruiser" (which I don't consider "real" cruisers) I'm going to blow a gasket.
I think it's kind of ironic this kit being announced now. I checked out a couple of back issues of FSM from the library, and one of them had a profile of the modeler Mike Ashey. One thing he said is how he was still waiting for a plastic 1/350 San Francisco from any manufacturer.
I swear I'm tempted to buy multiple copies of this kit, and encourage all other cruiser fans out there to do likewise, just to convince Trumpeter they've made the right choice and to come out with other kits of other cruisers. They could corner the market.

What's nice is that with suggested retail in the $60 dollar range, she'll pre-sell for around $50, or less. Very affordable on my end.

Hey all,
I got this off the pre sell sheet
TRUMPETER MODELS (TSM)
PLASTIC MODEL KITS MADE IN CHINA. ALL NEW TOOLING!
APPROXIMATE ARRIVAL: October 2007
____**5309 1/350 USS San Francisco CA-38 Heavy Cruiser, 1942 SRP $64.95
First Plastic kit ever produced of this vessel! This ship was a WWII era New Orleans class heavy cruiser. On December7, 1941, San Francisco was in Pearl Harbor and was awaiting docking and the cleaning of her heavily fouled bottom. Japanese planes began bombing dives on Ford Island and by 8:00, the surprise air attack on Pearl Harbor was well underway. The men of the San Francisco secured the ship for watertightness and began looking for opportunities to fight back. Some crossed to the USS New Orleans to help man anti-aircraft batteries on that ship. Others began using available rifles and machine guns. Miraculously, the San Francisco was not bombed or damaged during the Japanese air raid. After the attack was over, work resumed to make the San Francisco seaworthy and combat-ready, and it later saw extensive action in WWII. Kit consists of 263 parts on 7 sprues plus lower and upper hulls, a waterline plate display stand photo etched mast and radar and markings for 1942 MS21. Completed kit measures over 20" long.
I'm saving my penny's now.

Hey Ken
Welcome to the site. I don't know if sending a wish list to Trumpetr has too much affect on them. They just kind of go where they want. But, other players are entering the field. Hasegawa is releasing the Takao in Japan which means we will be getting it within the month. Aoshima announced they are doing the Nagato. While some may lament these are Japanese ships, the kick here is, it may keep Trumpeter out of that genre and seeking new venues like the US cruiser, or European big ship area.

Howdy to you all.
Steve thank for prompt reply and info on other kit makers. I agree Trumpter definintly dances to their own horn. I think the ships on my list would be other modelers wish list also agree?
How do you get you picture next to you posting name on this forum?
I actually going to my local hobby shop tonight to place my advance order for USS San Francisco. i am so glad Trumpeter chose 1942 version instead of late war version. The 1942 version show the USS SF at most important time in it service history. maybe one day i build the whole NOv 13 1942 USN task force. The USS San Francisco a good start
Next Trumpter cruiser USS Houston CA 30!!!

Check out HobbyLink Japan's coverage of the 2007 Plamodel/RadiCon Show under the 'Naval' section, page 2. Apparently Trumpeter is planning a follow-up to their 1/350 USS San Francisco 1942 with a San Fran '44 late-war fit , kit number 05310. There are a couple of photos of the built -up kit. Looks like another beauty. Can't wait to latch onto this one. No mention of a release date but I would imagine they would release it sometime in the spring or so following the 1942 version.

Hobbylink Japan, as of today, has some of the USS San Francisco in stock, albeit in a 'Low Stock' status.

Hooray! Got my order for Trumpy's USS San Francisco filled at Hobbylink Japan today. A little pricey this way but I can't wait for it to hit our LHS. Been wanting for this ship almost forever!. When I was a kid, I saw a line drawing of her (in the '44 configuration actually) in a National Geographic Society book from the early 60's (Men Ships and the Sea) and thought she was the coolest looking cruiser. I'm so happy to, at long last, get a styrene version of the San Fran. Hope Trumpy doesn't take too long in issuing the 1944 fit.

Got my Trumpy San Francisco today. Very nice indeed. Ordered some PE from Gold Medal Models which ought to finish off this ship nicely. The odd flaw here and there- molded on prop guards and anchor hawse pipes which need to be drilled out and built up a little. Otherwise, for the money, a lovely kit. Glad I finally have a CA-38 after all these years. Thank you Trumpeter.

She is in 1942 fit correct? This would mean Measure 21 only?

Don't forget about the Cursiers of the 20th Century Campaign coming up in July.
It would be nice if to see somebody build her. (Just a hint)

I have built my USS SanFrancisco kit and found it to be smooth build and loaded great detail.
I only wish we could have had the option of build the 5" 25cal i level or high angle mode.
I looking forward to USS Houston CA30 from the Trumpter line. I think it would be good start for line models for flagship class of NOrthampton CA. with jsut few extra parts you build USS Chicago 42-43 or USS Augusta 44.
Does anyone know about future trumpter releases
Ken

The only other one I've heard about is the French BB Richelieu. As to other WW2 US crusiers, don't hold your breath. It took several years to get the first one. I would think the next one (if they don't keep on with the BB ttrend) would either be a Baltimore or a Cleveland
