Guys,

I have been watching everyone talk about new campaigns and thought I would test the water and see who would be interested in a Cruisers of the 20th Century campaign.

Cruisers were the eyes and ears of the fleet, scouting out ahead, on the battleline, a solo raider, raider hunters, commerce protection, leaders of destroyer attack groups, fleet defender, a jack of all trades

Idea would be any cruiser built between 1900 and 1999 be it armoured, battle (technically cruisers not dreadnoughts), 1st 2nd 3rd rate, heavy, light, AA or modern tin can.

Scales 1/144 - 1/700

Any material kit, upgraded and scratch

Start date July 2008

End date 31st December 2008

campaign duration 6 months

Award for completion a nice ribbon.

And of course learn about the subject your building and have fun.

Guys let me know your views, any improvements I could make and if we get enough interest I will submitt this to the powers.

Ciao

I think it's a great idea, Luccianno...
For those who aren't involved or interested in the other campaigns here at MSW, this would prove an alternative...If we don't get enough to start at the date listed, remember, there's always a future date as well...
Start drawing up a solid game plan, and submit it as a proposal HERE!

I would humbly suggest that I'm the biggest cruiser fan on this board, with all due respect to you Luciano. Of course I'd be in. I'm just hoping against all hope that maybe, just maybe, there will be more 1/350 scale cruisers our, in plastic, other than the upcoming San Fransisco and the older Italian Zara class cruisers. Gad in about 30 seconds I could come up with a couple dozen cruisers I'd sell one of my kids for to see released in plastic.

BTW here is something I'm ashamed to admit I've never quite been able to decipher. "1/144 to 1/700." That does include 1/350, right? From largest to smallest, size of completed kit, it goes 1/144, 1/350, to 1/700? So when somebody says smaller scale it refers to a smaller finished model, even though with a larger number, right?

Halfyank,

It does get a little weird.....the smaller the ship the higher the scale number, 1/700=small, 1/1200=smaller, and of course 1/2400=tiny

I could always use an excuse to start another model - I'd be interested.

Guy's I think thats 8 that have shown an interest including myself, I will leave it over the weekend to see if we get anymore then submit it to the powers.

One thing scale would be 1/700 and anything bigger just in case someone wants to build that 1/1 scale USS Alaska. Sorry had to say it, but seriously I have seen wood kits in 1/96 scale so I thought I would place a bottom limit but not a top limit.

Is everyone happy with the start date? I thought I would start in July 08 to give anyone in the Forgotten sisters 2 campaign time to complete before starting on their next.
I also didn't want to start this year as we still have two campaigns running and one just about to start.

I'll participate. Lacking a good plastic british WW2 cruiser (who knows, maybe one will be released until then), I will probably build a 1/350 Trumpeter Moskva.

PS. Does the Hood count being a 'battlecruiser'?

Ion,

The Hood is a battlecruiser. Definately.

That will be my subject. Tamiya's 1/700 kit.

uh, I'm in I guess. As much as I can count on anything thirteen months away. That's a Loooong way off.

So this has to be some project I can't start until then, right?

Thats right Rick you would not be able to start until the start date.

Ion, yep HMS Hood is ok as Battlecruisers are classed as cruisers, they were designed as the replacements for the armoured cruiser.

Hi Kym,

Basicly in a campaign the object is to build the subject type of the campaign within the time frame allowed for in the campaign, while posting your progress within the campaign thread to share with the other members.
But most importantly its also to have fun.
