Do you really want Lil' Gator to build a model? Let me check with Mom, he's only 2.

Gator,

Sounds like your a little nervous of the little one. Maybe the little gator could do a snap tight for the campaign. My oldest has no intreast in the hobby but the other 2 (4yr, 18m) would give it a try.....

I know I have until January to decide, and that is probably when I will, but it appears that the release of the Alabama is a heartbeat away, and the San Francisco a month or so. CLose enough that Great Models is doing pre-orders. And of course there is the Takao. In any case by January I'll have what has been released in hand and probably a PE set or two stored in the box, and a dozen or so pix and probably a set of GAtor MAsks as well (Better get to work Kenny...the Bama in Atlantic scheme looks like a dozzy)

So I will have options

Well, plenty of time to decide what I'm going to build for this either the Italian light cruiser RM Scipione Africano the ship the rescued the King from the clutched of the Germans, or do I save this for the cruisers campaign and do the KM Tripitz in one of her (his) 1944 camo schemes.

Ah... but then again KM Prinz Eugen. Does the Prinz Eugen count as she(he) was a half sister (brother) of the Hipper class? Mmmm...

What to build lots of choise.

Ciao

I think I'll give Dragon's 1/700 Independence class flattops a try. I'll do the San Jacinto.

Here's an even more obscure sister that I will do - I-402. Sister to the I-400 and 401. I like to do the obscure or out of the ordinary.

Psssst...... the summer is winding down, the gale will start blowing. Better tighten the shutters, cover the pool, and light up the fire place because "The Forgotten Sisters" are coming....

Well, since I was going to build this one anyway, I figured I'd sign up as well. I got back into building again so I could build teh ship I served on during my short Naval career, USS Scott DDG995. Sister to the USS Kidd. We used to tie up next to the Kidd all the time when we were in port trogther, which wasn't much.

Jim,

Hey glad to have you on board and I can't wait to see your build. Maybe during the build you could tell us some stories of your time aboard the USS Scott.

I did notice the kit comes with SH-60 helos. We carried the SH2-F LAMPSII. I'll have to find me one of those.

I was looking at the instructions for the ship and they have the two different paint schemes. 80's and 90's. Well, they did get it wrong, the 90's was run from 93-98. I was going to do the ship they way we looked after getting back from our North Atlantic cruse in 1991.

The good thing is I have plenty of time to get my refernce material ready.

Hi Jim (goldenpony)

What scale are you building your USS Scott DDG995?
If you're making it in 1/700 I can solve your Lamps problem
Send me an email with your address (if this is the case)

I have photos of some exercises I have done with DDG 998 USS Thorn (back in 1987 - 20 years ago!!!!) and I can concurr with the SH2-F LAMPSII situation

I am going to do the 1/350 scale Dragon kit.

The rest of the Spruance's carried the SH-60, but we carried the SH-2F. I guess because they did not add the RAST system to the Kidd's. Heck, if I recall, the rest of the surface ships at the time carried the SH-60, even the FFG's. I know the Scott was scheduled to get the 60, but since she was do-commed early I figure that was scrapped.

This is going to be a fun build. I know the kit does not have the bull nose at the front of the ship so that will have to be built. I will have to check out what else needs to be added. I am looking forward to the start of this build. I have plenty keeping me busy with builds on the Armour boards.

Hey all,

I'm trying to think of a good build for this campaign. What type of work am I looking at to convert the USS Enterpise CV-6 in to the USS Hornet (CV-8)?
The scale is 1/720 I think and I want to do the time period of the Dollittle(spelling? sorry) raids.

Frank, why not get the Tamiya or Trumpeter kit?

Also, I got my Tamiya 1/350 I-400 Friday. I'll do I-401. This is a beautiful kit.

bruce,

was she the Type 051 destroyer of the luda class? Iwas trying to goggle her and thats what I kept getting. Nice looking ship. this is what I found;

Luda III (051G1/G2)
On a whole the new Luda IIIs had the SJD-II and SJD-4 Sonar systems installed. These sonar systems allowed submarine detections up to 18 knots (33 km/h) in harsh sea states. Hull 166, the Zhuhai, was equipped with 4 x twin YJ-8 (C-801) AShMs, 1 x triple Whitehead A244 torpedo launcher, Thomson-CSF TAVITAC combat data system (two systems purchased from France in 1985), EFR-1 Rice Lamp fire-control radar, and ESS-1 VDS towed sonar. During the mid-life upgrade, the #166 Zhuhai was upgraded with HQ-7 SAM, 4 x YJ-83 (C-803) SSMs, Type 344 fire-control radar, and Type 79A 37 mm AA guns.

The HQ-7 SAM system is reported to be equipped with "semi-automatic reloader" system with 16 spare missiles. The same system is also used on the Type 052 Destroyer, bringing the total number of air-defense missiles to 8 (ready to fire) + 16 (stored) = 24.

The #165 Zhanjiang was upgraded to the Type 051G1 standard, which is very similar to the Type 051G2.

Zhanjiang (165)
Zhuhai (166)

hello Frank,
that is the same one.Janes Fighting Ships has her as the only one.the other ships of her class were decommisoned.the book was dated 2002,so they might have recommiston her sisters.FYI this ship goes around the world to "show the flag".if i do not get anymore info on her paint,i am going with what i have.White Ensign does not have any paint for the Chinese Navy.i have about 2 gigs of info on my computer for the Chinese Navy.
Cheers,
Bruce

Clang, Clang, Clang, Clang,Clang, Clang,Clang, Clang,Clang, Clang,

We have about 30 days untill the start of "Forgotten Sisters" campaign. Everyone needs to dust of the kit boxes, dig out the photo etched and scratch building supplies, and clear out a space on the bench. This campaign is a little different than other campaigns here at "MSW". Harry from BFM has donated an armed kit of your choice from the Battlefleet Models Catalog for the best build of the campaign. At the end of the campaign all participants will vote and the winner will get the kit. So if your signed up....... get ready, and if your not signed up then got to the group build page and get signed up. See ya at the bench.
