Ahoy mates!

Thanks to Skipper, I've settled on a subject for my "No Guns Allowed" entry. I'll be doing the MS Engenstrasse from the movie "The Sea Chase" (one of my all time favorite movies).

What do I use to model her? C-2 Freighter, Hog Island freighter or a Liberty ship? I can't find any records that say what kind of ship they filmed the movie on. She was an old girl, the narration says 5000 tons.

I've got Battlefleet's C-2 on order, do you think that will work?

I'm so confused (hush Gunny )

Gator,

Trying to find a picture of a fictional ship isn't very easy, plus trying to find a ww2 5000 german Freighter isn't that easy either. Does this look like it?

I can keep looking if that won't work.

Kenny, is that a John Wayne movie?

I would say no on the C2.

What you need(in my opinion) is a Tramp Steamer, take a look at HP's site.

Frank, unfortunately that's an oiler. Ergenstrasse was a freighter.

Harry, yep the John Wayne/Lana Turner movie. I did see that Loose Cannon has a tramp steamer. I'll check on it when I get home.

This is going to be cool. I've always wanted to do the Ergenstrasse. Guess I need to watch the movie again.

Rui, I owe you thanks. I've been stuck for a subject since I signed up. This has been on my "Always wanted to build" list for a while.

Frank, no worries. Check out Navsource. You can look at a picture with the alphabet soup class letters.

Hi, Gator I never saw the movie, but a while back I came across a merchant marine site that had a lot of photos and info on ww2 merchies. I didn’t save the link, but it is an idea of where to look.

The only photo that I could find of the MS Engenstrasse:

I took a look at Warner Brothers Studio, but dial up is too slow,
it might be worth asking them what ship or type it was.

One of the companies that does 700 scale (Skywave I think) used to do some Japanese freighters....Marus I think..They might be close in appearance and cost effective

Gator,

I looked at the one photo of the ship you want that "redshirt " posted a link to and I looked at the "hog island" build that was posted and they do look alike, maybe Harry is on to something.

I got a pretty good photo of the Ergenstrasse.

Let me know if we're on the right track.

Gator,

Where did you get the photo? It does look like a hog islander.

That is taken from the opening scene of the movie "The Sea Chase". I paused it and took the photo.

Shipmates,
I've been following this thread with some interest. My main interest with the unarmed vessels are with the Coast Guard small boats. Now this could make an interesting build in either 1/350th or 1/144th (preferred).

Just wondering, has anyone seen any plans, even if not detailed greatly of the 82' or the new 87' Cutters ? If basic plans can be found, I'd probably stay with 1/350, if some better ones are found I'll probably step up to 1/144th.

I just love the look of the "Coasties" Boats. Plus I take my cover off to them for the job they do. Any help would really be appreciated. Thanks again, crew. Semper Fi ......................Bruce

Hi Bruce,

The USCG site: http://www.uscg.mil/hq/g-cp/history/CutterList.html

May be of some help. If you do some searching you may find a set of plans or send them an email. They are very accommodating to requests.

Just curious. Did the Ergenstrasse turn out to be a Hog?
I can't tell since all the photos are gone.
Cheers
Will
