The 4 ship Mogami class were bult in the early to mid 1930's as light crusiers. In 39 - 40 they wre all converted to 8 inch heavy crusiers. The mogami was rear-ended by the Mikuma near the end of the Battle of Midway. She was able to limp away, but her sister got caught by the US and there are some very famous photo's of her before she went down. This is one of the more interesting ships due to the Hybrid crusier / carrier (along with the BB's Hyuga and Ise) features. Excellent work and a very stunnng diorama

Very nice job Christer. I'm particularly impressed with the texture of the decks that looks very real to me.

By the way Steve it was the Mogami that rear ended the Mikuma. Mogami was actually involved in three collisions, this one, one with a tanker in 1943, and finally with the Nachi. As a friend of mine says it she was a "serial" collider.

Thanks for the corrction Rodger, I knew one of them smacked the other. Way back in the mid 70's when all the Japanese warshps were being released in injection 700 scale, the Mikuma was the only heavy crusier that didn't make it. They had the Mogami as a hybrid, the Suzuya as 8", and the Kumano as a 15 gun 6 inch light crusier. I think they eventually produced this one though I suppose you caould just do 2 Suzuyas They were missing a few of the carriers at the time I was building but these were eventually added before the 80's. but if they did the Mikuma it had to be within the last 10 years

Although a difficult task, those (at least one) would be interesting projects and a good way of making a dio with two ship
