A-hoy shipmates!
Pardon me but I usually model landlubber things. like figures and tanks.
However, there are some ships I find very cool and would like to model.
But Im missing drawings of the subjects in question.
The first things Im looking for are drawings of monitors and ironclads used during the ACW. Especially USS Virginia and Monitor. As well as other early submarines. I would like to remember that there were one that looked like it had been constructed in a woodenbarrel and was named turtle.
The second thing are drawings of a british submarine from WWII. Thunderbolt or perhaps other subs in the same series.
Im looking for information and drawings of these vessel thats is enough to have as base for waterline models of them. At least so I have the proportions right to start with.
I would apreciate directions where I can find information about these ships. Whether it be scans, website, photos, books, drawings etc, free or for purchase is of interest.
Thanks

Toke, I couldn't find any drawings of the Monitor or the Virginia that had dimensions but here is a link that has drawings of the two ships to scale to each other so you can get an idea of the relative size. http://www.history.navy.mil/photos/images/h45000/h45978.jpg
BTW it's the CSS Virginia, Confederate States Ship, not USS Virginia, United States Ship. The south would probably rise again if they saw their beloved ship referred to as under a yankee name.
The other ship you asked about is probably the Turtle from the American Revolution.
I found this site on google. You should be able to find more information there on the Monitor, the Virginia, also referred to as the Merrimack, and the Turtle.
Good luck.

Look uder American Civil war, then under naval actions. There are scads of books published about this. It is popularly called the Battle Between the Monitor and the Merrimac.
Another great one to look up is the battle of Mobile Bay with the CSS Tennesse

As mentioned, the Turtle http://www.milminwh.com/co_32-005.htm " TARGET="_blank"> http://www.milminwh.com/co_32-005.htm was from the Revolutionary War and was supposed to get under a ship and the sole crew member was to use an auger to drill a hole in hull below the water line.
It didn't work. #:-)
