hello mates,
i ran across some model ships and need input if i will buy them.the first one is 1/600 Airfix Falklands Warship set,is it any good and worth the money and time to buy and build.the second one is 1/350 trumpeter chinese destroyers, they are very cheap but are they worth it at $9.00 each.
thxs for your help,
Bruce

Airfix can be OK, just that sometimes the molds are old so the flash is a bit heavy. The only downside to them is the somewhat odd scale.

I'd say any 1/350 kit for $9.00 is worth it, as long as it's something you'd really want to build.

i signed up for the cold war destroyer campaign, and was looking for something odd for it.i have read about airfix but thought that the falklands set was new.thank you for all the info.there are 4 or 5 of the $9.00 destroyers.i might get one of them and maybe right a review about it(hint to Gator or Gunny).

Very cool Bruce. I would be interested in seeing a review on one of these kits.

Hi Bruce

A review is most welcome
Another thing you can do to improve those old Airfix kits is to add some PE sets that White Ensign Models have. It surelly make a difference. Give it a though - although you will spend more on the PE than in the ships
As for the chinese DD.... I have to agree with Rodger... if it is a model you want to built, buy! If it's only because of TinCans from Cold War Campaign, you will find another subject that really "talks to you". At least with me, I always need to build a model that really interests me... otherwise, it will be unfinished, forgotten and it's just (another) expense.

Just my two cents (euro)

Sounds good, Bruce...and mentioning Mary in your review(s) as a consultant is no problem whatsoever, mate...

Cheers,

Not a big fan of modern (other than the Nimitz and Enterprise kits which are utterly fantastic !!!!!!!!) I've built one of the modern crusiers and felt for the money, it was a good deal. Probably the same for those modern Chinese DD's. I look forward to seeing pix of them built as I am curious

It's funny how perceptions change; for many years 1/600 was one of the preferred scales for miniatures. Its a nice easy 50 feet to the inch

It's this 1/350 and 1/700 stuff that confuses me; it's neither easy like a pure metric ratio like 1/1000 or 1/500 nor convenient (like so many feet to the inch). Almost any round measurement on the prototype gives fractions of a millimetre or lesser fractions of a fraction of an inch

Aidrian.

Don't forget to use the "Blog" ( "build log") style thread option, mate...designed just for this type of project...looking forward to it!

Hi Bruce

It's easy
When you build your models, you'll start a new tread...
There's a option right after the topic name, where you can choose to be a Built Blog... and then you'll have a tread just like mine with the Scratchbuilt 1/700 Bay Class Frigate

This kind of treads/posts also have a highligh area - if you enter MSW via the homepage, you can't miss the latest updates in this area.
Hope this helps
