Ahoy mates!
I just realized that I never started a blog on this puppy. Anyway, here's what I started with...
Time for a photo update on the CSS David.
Getting started with the redwood veneer...
I used blue painter's tape to make my templates, here's the first few pieces on...
Here's several hours of cutting and sticking redwood strips...
I'm going to lightly sand the wood and then attach the redwood veneer to the upper part of the hull.
Comments welcome.

Kenny that's a very interesting little sub, Harry said something about nail heads if you don't want to make them you can try using a sharp 6B pencil i use it on my wooden ship decking it looks pretty good, i also use a pile of sanding dust mixed with wood glue as filler its a little darker but it fills the gaps good, nice work so far.

Thanks for the tip Robert! I'll mix some sawdust in with a little Gator Glue. I wonder if I should draw in the joint lines?

Interesting little boat. I like your method of adding the planking. Anytime you can use the real material instead of painting it will sure help.

Well she looks pretty good, great build and quite a handsome ship, but i'm surprised by the colour of the metal -was it all black this way -including the propeller?

) tinting the base and the blocks, so that the wood veneer would be the "spotlight" of it? This way it almost looks camouflaged

Hey Skip. I did stain the base but I could go much darker. Would that help?
