Okay, this is my first attempt into the wonderful world of 1/700 scale!! I like to add extra detail to my model kits so I have experience with photo etch but in 1/35 scale. Some of the complaints about the 1/700 scale models is the poor job some model companies do on the 20mm AA gun for the usn ships. I've looked at toms, GMM and ensign kits;So I ask the vets, who makes the premier photo etched 20mm AA gun? I might as well add 40mm AA and 1.1 inch to the list. Thanks in advance.

If just etched, for the 20mm and 40mm, etched parts only Lion Roar are the best I have seen but I also like Tom's, white metal - Paper lab are very good, resin, Niko are superb but don't do the 20mm separately - yet.

I don't do anything that small. I do know Lionroar does them in 350. They may have a set in 700. Check on ebay, a store called AAA Hobby carries a lot of Lionroar sets.

I think the best and easiest 20 mm guns are the one in the Tamiya Missouri and Iowa kits. I would buy those kits just for the 5 inch (also fantastic) and 20 mm guns. Rich

My vote is for Paper Labs. By far the best I've seen.

In photoetch I'd have to say Toms 20mm are far too basic and dont look right. The gunshield is rubbish. GMM is pretty good but best Ive seen so far is lion roar. In 40mm bofors best Ive seen are WEM and Lion Roar in several confugurations.

Hi Jeffrey,

In 1/700, I think Corsair Armada's Oerlikons can't be beat.
