My GUESS (emphasis on guess) is one of the acrylic splashes in the water acts as the lift holding this plane up. Look atthe one right under the fuselage. I bet that's the one....

WHATA MAGNIFICENT DIORAMA...WHERE DID YOU SEE THIS? I believe there is probably aa clear plastic piece in that cotton splash directly under the cener of the plane

That is cool. I like it.

My guess - there is a magnetic gyroscope hidden inside the fusalage of the plane and it is creating a magnetic field around it. The water looks like its been made with metal filing in it which reacts with the mag. field and keeps the plane suspended.
The cool thing is that you can move the plane creating a new look whenever you want to.

Seriously my guess is just a different flavor of what the other guys said. I think the plane is suspended from the big splash on the left at the wing tip. A metal rod is running the length of the wings giving the whole plane support. The big splash can hide a lot.

My guess would be the big splash off the port wing has a rod which goes through the wing as a spar to the center of the fuselage. You'll note the wing tip is hiding in the splash. Obviouisly, to do this the builder had to plan ahead and build the plane around the extra support in the wing.

I don't know how they did it but it's incredible. Did the site give any information about what models were used? I'm guessing !/48 for the plane and scratch built for the ship. If this is 1/72 it's even more amazing.
