hello all,
In looking the only campaign around the end of 2008 is PreDreadnought.
So there is two ideas.1)a quick and dirty campaign,or 2) a year long multifuncation campaign.the first one would start on Dec. 7,2008 and end May 7,2009.the second one would start on Dec. 7,2008-Dec.7,2009.the first one is modeling the ships in Pearl Harbor on the morning of Dec. 7.in this campaign you can model any ship that was in the port.ie: you could do the USS ARIZONAor the USS WEST VIRGINIA or the USS OGLALA (which was aMinelayer) or even maybe the USS GREBEL(which was a Destroyer-Minesweeper).you could do a Passengerliner or a Frighter if it was in port.
The year long campaign would be ANY U.S. Navy Ship in the Pacific when Pearl Harbor happen ie: the Ships of the Asiatic Fleet,Submarines on patrol, the Carriers retuning to Pearl Harbor from Wake Island.Only the ships in the Pacific on Dec. 7,1941 will apply.
So what do you think?
Cheers,
Bruce
Edit: you could also do PBY's as they are Flying"boats".

Hmmm. Mirage does have that new USS Ward out. Then again, if we tweaked the campaign to include IJN and USN subjects on Dec. 7, we could also open it up to the fly fly boys and increase the amount of naval subjects by including the Japanese strike force.

Hello Kenny,
Thanks for the ideas.how about this U.S.Navy for the first campaign,Dec 7,2008-Dec 7,2009 then the Imperial Japanese Navy Ships Dec 7,2009-Dec 7 2010.this way we could concentrate on one Navy at a time.if you want and the campaign is successful then on Dec 7 2010 to Dec 7 2011 we could do the Naval Units of Britian,Netherlands,Canada,New Zealand, Australia etc.what do you think?
cheers,
Bruce
this allso opens up 6 month campaigns for other ideas

:)) Actually I have built the Ko-Hyoteki (for Pearl Harbour Attack) three times:
1/35 by Accurate Armour (resin)
1/72 by Wings72 (vacform)
1/72 by Finemolds (the first release)

I would have to make the Dio USS Ward attacking the midget sub (which I have in 1/700!!!)
Could be an interesting campaign indeed
Skipper

EDIT: (Late) Happy Birthday and I wish you a clean surgery and a fast recovery!!!! Rui

I am thinking about a "Hollywood at Sea" campaign. Build your favorite movie or TV show vessel.
Bat Boat
Love Boat
Miami Vice Scarab
USS Belinda from Away All Boats
and so on.

And yes, I will be building the USS Sea Tiger!

R.M.S. Titanic, from any of a half dozen movies.

S.S. Poseidon, actually a R.M.S. Queen Mary but what the heck.

A small river gunboat from Apocalypse Now.

H.M.S. Victory from That Hamilton Women, or Bequest to the Nation.

A sailing sloop from The Wackiest Ship in the Army.

Anybody make a Lifeboat from either Lifeboat or Abandon Ship?

Or a Gato boat from any number of submarine movies, or a U-Boat from Das Boot.

The list goes on, and on. I LIKE IT!

I was thinking about a couple of different ideas for campaigns myself.

One idea is a campaign based on the "Gator" Navy. Us real navy guys called all the ships that carried Marines, Gator Freighters. Classes are LPD, LPH, LHA, and all those landing craft from WWII. Other countries also have these types of ships so there are plenty of possible builds there.

The other one was Coast Guards of the World. All those ships that guard the coasts around the world.

Just a couple of Ideas.

hello all,
during the Pearl Harbor year long campaign,we could do a "Movie Ship"campaign for 6 months and a "Gator Navy" campaign for the other 6 months.here is another campaign idea, how about a campaign called "Jutland".the idea is to build any ship that fought at Jutland.it could be a Battleship,Cruiser, Destroyer,Submarine, etc.this campaign might fit nicely after the PreDreadnought campaign.
What do you all think?
Now it is time to open the Scotch and kill that bottle tonight.i will check on this tomorrow.
cheers,
Bruce

First off, mates, it's very refreshing to see all of the increased enthusiasm in the campaign section, all of the discussion about new campaigns and ideas, has been very positive thus far, keep it up!!!

More campaigns = more ship models being built and talked about, increasing the opportunity for every site member to benefit in some way, and participate as well...keep the ideas and thoughts coming, and as each of you write up the campaign proposal, keep a special eye on the dates....remember, we're shipbuilders, and it does take a bit longer to finish out a ship model correctly, than other genres of models, especially if it's a complicated build.

Before any campaign is approved, special attention is always payed to this area by the administration staff, as too many campaigns operating at one time will always equal out to extra stress on the modelers, who are trying to support the site and participate in far too many builds, and a much less successful completion rate...so with that said Gents, continue in the discussion of new group builds, plan your campaigns well, write 'em up and send 'em in!

Keep Modeling!

hello Mark,
i look at the dates as i think about a campaign.i know that Ship modeling is very hard to do.i have yet to complete a ship model.when i was younger after fighting off the dinosaurs, around the fire i would try to put a Ship model together.i think that maybe a 1 year long campaign and 2 smaller ones would be best every year.what do you think?i know that it can not be said that we are only doing 3 campaigns a year, but it might help for the stress of doing campaigns.
cheers,
Bruce

hello all,
I think after the Predreadnought canpaign,i will propose a Jutland campaign.what it is is an extention of the Pre dreadnought.Any ship that fought at Jutland is allowed.he campaign will be 6 months long. That should bring us to December '08.That is just in time for a Pacific War campaign. This campaign should be 10 months long. The campaign will include any ship that fought in the Pacific during the timeline of Dec.7,1941-Sept 2,1945.
if you have any questions, please ask.i know i am a new member here, so if i am pushing to much of all of this, please tell me.
cheers,
Bruce

I submitted my "Hollywood at Sea" campaign. I purposely left out real ships because I want a nice, fun build that we don't have to get hung up with a bunch of research to build.

It will run from Sept. '08 to Feb '09.
