I was looking on the Campaign page and noticed this one was missing. Maybe therecent reshuffle did something.

Ack!!
How odd, as if you follow the link in the first post, the info is still there...something for the Captain to sort out, I'm afraid...thanks for pointing this out to me, Jim!

The end date is for "1999".....is that a reference to a singer or just a flub?

Hey Frank,

I have the ability to manipulate the space - time continuum (a manipulation of swamp gas), so for this build we will actually be going back in time.

hello Kenny,
on the Group Build page, the Hollywood at Sea campaign start and stop dates have been changed.it shows start:Sept.1,2008 and end:Nov.30 2009.my records show Sept.1,2008-March 1,2009.the campaign is now 14 months long, not the original 6 months long.
did you change it?with all the problems the new server has had,all of the campaign leaders might want to check thier campaigns,to see if anything has happened like this.
cheers,
Bruce

What the pink primer colours actual reference number / name would be & is there a company that makes a good match for it.

I posted some info on Page 1, not sure if it helps. In "theory", they ran out of antifouling red and had to mix with white, ergo pink. So "in theory" you may do the same, dilute antifouling red with white? Wish I could give you a better answer!

Hello
Yeh I saw your post, some interesting items. Think I will go with adding some white with the red until it looks resonable.
Thanks.

I found this image while looking for after market conversions. I thought it was a neat idea and beautiful work.

From the Iron Bottom Sound Models gallery page, Chris Porter built the Tigerfish from ‘Ice Station Zebra’ and he based the model on the actual submarine from the movie that was used for the surface shots, the USS Ronquil . He modified a Revell 1/72 Gato using IBS products to be the modified Gato the Ronquil actually was (a Guppy IIA). He even added a blacked-out spot on the fairwater of the Ronquil’s actual number (369) so it could sport the Tigerfish’s ‘509’ number for filming.

Hmm, I've been thining of building the USS Cain DMS-18 from "The Cain Mutany" (One of my favorites) Since she was portrayed by a converted Gleaves class DMS it's shouldn't be too hard a build.

Well I've ordered the new USS Buchannan from Dragon and will be converting it to the infamous USS Cain. MY only problem is; do I do a stacit model (complete with laundry drying on the stays and sailors running around with their shirtails out) or a diorama from one of the scenes in the movie (the yellow stain incident perhaps). What do you think? This will also be my first time attempting to modify a kit, and scratchbuild things (like all the sweep gear) so wish me luck!

Heelo everyone. I'm a new member who just returning to the hobby after a long absence since High School. (About 20 years) Anyway this campaign sounds fun and I'm going to do the Acharon.....if spelled right from Master and Cammander. I'll be using the Revell U.S.S. Constitution kit and hopefully manage the lions head on the bow.

Does it have to be a Hollywood production?

The reason I ask, is that I have 2 ships from 2 old danish movies, that I'd like to build.

The first is the old danish Naval ship F347 Triton (1955 - 1981) http://www.navalhistory.dk/danish/skibene/T/Triton(1955).htm

It was featured in the danish comedy from 1965 "Flaadens Friske Fyre" (aka "It's nifty in the navy http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0125103/

The movie is about 3 friends that are drafted, and ends up serving at the Triton .. great movie .. and I'd love to do it homage by building the Triton .... however I don't think a kit has been made, so it'll propably end up as a scratchbuild project.

A friend of mine, is employed in the danish navy, and he'll try to research where I'll be able to find good blueprints of the ship!

The other ship is an old rusty freighter from the movie "Martha" from 1967 http://dnfx.dfi.dk/pls/dnf/pwt.page_setup?p_pagename=dnffuldvis&p_parmlist=filmid=2281
This is a kitch-movie for all the danish sailors .. and I'll guarentee you, that you'll be able to find at least one copy of the movie on every ship in the danish navy.

This is a BIG project however, because I have no references of the ship whatsoever .. except the movie ...... so I think it awaits me in the distant future

so .. can I build the Triton .. al though it's not from a Hollywood production?

is this thread alive?

I read a bit on the "similarities" (not!) between the Revell "Pirates of the Carribean" kit and the (sort of) real ship that it is supposed to depict (a fictional model of a fictional ship of a pretend amusement ride!). The kit is aweful, i will still build it with my kid (she is a big fan of the movie), but I want to change my entry...

I have an the old Monogram Nimitz, was thinking of building her as she appeared in the movie Final Countdown (Philadelphia expt SciFi), which I admit I actually enjoyed

Will be an easy OOB build, still have to get that Revell "thing" done lol
cheers

One month to go! How about some movie posters from your builds to get the anticipation going?

hello Kenny,
i am doing a P.T. boat for this campaign, either McHales Navy or they were expendable.i will buy the Revell P.T.109 kit for this.
Cheers,
Bruce

Bruce,

There was a discussion recently in a Sci Fi modeling forum (of all places) about PT Boats and the PT-73 from McHale's Navy. It turns out the actual boat used in the series was a British Vosper torpedo boat. The Vosper is available by Airfix in 1/72.

For my self, I'll be trying to get hold of an old Nautilus kit for doing the Tigerfish from 'Ice Station Zebra'. My preliminary search has revealed that the novel's version of the sub (named Dolphin) was more likely a Skipjack or Permit class sub. Since this 'Hollywood' I'll go with the screen version.

I also was thinking of a PT boat from 'They Were Expendable' or maybe 'In Harm's Way'. I have a Revell 1/72 Gato and the smaller Balao so I may do either the Cary Grant's Copperfin from 'Destination Tokyo' or Clark Gable's Nerka from 'Run Silent, Run Deep'.

Hello Bruce, the PT used in McHale's Navy was a Vosper but not the same as the Airfix kit. Vosper produced several different types. Revell used to have a kit of the boat boxed as both a British Vosper and a McHale's Navy one. One was molded in white plastic the other in gray. The Revell 1/72 Gato would work for Run Silent, Run Deep.but not for Destination Tokyo without major modification to backdate the conning tower. Someone, I can't remember who, makes a resin conning tower for an early war Gato for the Revell boat. Trumpeter makes an early war Gato in 1/144 scale that could be used. I hope this helps Al

Al,

Thanks for clearing up about the Revell Vosper kit.

For my Revell Gato, I'm using it for a Pearl Harbor campaign build over at the Aeroscale forums, with the idea of backdating it from a Gato to Tambor class boat. I have a coning tower conversion from Iron Bottom Sound Models (Nautilus Models also makes coning tower conversion kits).
