I was AWOL again, due to work issues, for Pearl Harbor day so I'm late joining in the remembrance. My teacher in NJROTC in high school was on the USS Nevada that fateful day, and was on the bridge when she tried to make her break.
As an aside when I first got onto the internet many years ago I hung mostly on The History Channel WWII discussion board. On Dec 7th every year all the nut jobs came out of the woodwork talking about the "conspiracy." I much prefer you guys who know what is what.

I am proud to say that the elementary school in my neighborhood had the flag at half mast.

Isn't it amazing that there are those who still believe that there was a conscious and deliberate plan by Roosevelt and others to intentionally allow the Japanese to attack Pearl Harbor so the US would be drawn into the war.
Aside from the fact that we simply weren't that good (or smart!) and were absolutely NOT reading the Japanese NAVAL code (as opposed to their DIPLOMATIC code), there's the obvious problem that what Churchill (and Roosevelt) felt was important was stopping Hitler. Japan didn't pose anywhere nearly the threat to survival of Great Britain that Hitler did.
The attack on Pearl Harbor did NOT lead us to war against Germany (at least not directly). That only came about when Hitler was stupid enough to declare war on the US as an ally of Japan. He could have simply declined to do so and there is good reason to believe that we may have not commenced hostilities against the Nazi regime for some additional months.
While there is no doubt that Chruchill was quite relieved when we entered the war against Germany, "allowing" the attack on Pearl Harbor by Japan was no guarantee of producing that result. And it's sad that the conspiracy theory believers will never be willing to give up the myth, despite all the evidence to the contrary.

I agree, it was exactly like that. I hate how rumors and conspiracy can lead to the undermining of History.
