Here's a rough drawing of the diorama. Furutaka, Mogami and Akizuki are built. Takao, Kagero and Yukikaze are next, Kongo and Akagi when they are released. BTW it's titled 'Truk Lagoon"

WOW! Quite a project you have laid on. The build is looking great and the detail is really good. Can't wait to see more of your dio.

The Nagato is looking good Kym and I love the dio idea.

Fabulous job! Nice pics.
It's great having all the IJN 1/350 styrene kits coming onstream. Can't wait for the Fujimi 1/350 Kongo to hit the shelves.

Nicely done Kym, great idea for the diorama,... btw, which door in your home are you going to use for a base!

At your pace, the fleet should be ready by March,.. again... well done.

I finally got my arse off the build bench to finish welding a display table. I've drawn a rough shape of the overall dio (on the table top, not the actual base) and added the ships built/building plus my 1:450 Akagi. Seems I have an empty space or two which would have been nice to fill with an oiler or transport ship, but may have to settle with another destroyer or cruiser.
Any suggestions on arrangments of the ships, please advise

I was wondering about the Akagi and then saw you used the 450 scale version. What about the Furutaka and Myoko?. I wasn't aware of either of them being out in 350.
The Nagato blows me away. I sure wish I had the funds to purchase that beauty. Did the little people come with it? No railings along main deck?

Hello,
Very, very impressive. I am looking forward to seeing the photoes when the whole scene is finished. One question though, is someone doing a 1/350 Akagi?

Steve, the Nagato is only about 2/3rd's completed, hence not much railing. Figures are from L'Arsenal. Furutaka, Mogami and Akizuki are all Yankee Modelworks resin kits.
gunnerPhil, Yes, Hasegawa's next 1:350 subject will be Akagi, due for release later this year.

Thanks for the info Kym both on the figures and that Someone has taken up the Akagi flag. As expensive as the Nagato was, I dread seeing the price of the Akagi

Why not nest a few DD's in that open spot?
Also, I'd move the Akagi inboard and put a BB outside of her to make her more a focal point of the display, since she'll be the only ship without the large caliber guns. Besides, they might put their most precious resource inside the moored ships as an extra level of protection.

Thanks for the comments guys.
Martin, good idea. I am going to move the Akagi to the center line and the Kongo to the outside.
Well I think I'm close to finishing, just all those pesky little details. Today I finished off by adding the rust streaks to the hull, tomorrow, I'll gently brush a dark smoke colour over the top to tone it down a bit and then on to the rigging. I want the fleet to look really 'used and abused', like they have copped a bit of a hammering.
A pleasent surprise today, my Takao and Yukikaze arrived in the post. No rest for the wicked!
