Hi All,

I have attached a couple of photos of my recently completed Japanese Midget submarine, recently completed as in yesterday.

This 1/72 kit is manufactured by Fine Molds and is really nice to build, my only complaint is that the very fine weld marks are lost on certain areas when rubbing down the hull joint. To overcome this I used the stretched sprue , glue and knife technique which is explained in some detail by Glenn Cauley and can be found on the MSW front page.

Fine Molds do two versions, the "Pearl" and "Sidney" harbor attackers, the model shown is a "Pearl Harbor" version, I do have the "Sidney Harbor" kit in my stock.

2 questions. What is the difference btwn the Pearl and Sydney kit. and 2 could you give me some historical info on the Sydney operation; I never heard of it . As far as I knew, Pearl was the only place it happened.

Hi Steve

Differences between the two types of midget subs:
Torpedo guard and net cutter arrangement;
Conning tower arrangement (guards and net cutter);
Propeller Guards.

As with Pearll Harbour attack, the Sidney attck Ko-Hyoteki's had little success, being all sunk and only sinking one Ferry boat

Hope this helps
PS: It's good to be back and see some good updates here

Tracy, Rui

Thanks very much for the information. The only attacks on Austrailia I was familiar with were a few bombings way in the northeastern section of the continent while New Guinea and Port Morseby were still an issue.
