I think I have found a colour pictire of the mural from another site. It's on hyperscale from another 1/350 big E build. http://www.hyperscale.com/2008/features/ussenterpriselc_1.htm
Theyre not very big pictures but I think It might help with the colours.

Hey thanks Jim..they do help... Too bad decals aren't available for them.

BTW, sorry guys, but the collector had asked to suspend the build for the time being so he can figure the aircraft arrangement for the hanger....and in the meanwhile I started on another build for him..

Nick,
Those are Tweezers in the background! You are INSANE! Or BLIND! Or BOTH!! Are you going to drill out the barrels on the CWIS?

Excellent scratching!

Thanks for your comments guys!

No easy scratch building as the parts are just so small, but without adding them, the ship would just look too bare...Thank Goodness I've found a way not to squint and strain my eyes..--- Just RELAX....and LOOK..!

But hmmmm those CWIS barrells look like they need some drilling out don't they..

Greetings shipmates!

The ship is finally nearing completion, but before all the primed and painted parts, here's the many many many hours of research, work, eye-crossing, hair-pulling and chain smoking....Effort !!!
There are just so many tiny parts (of which not all are photographed yet!!) to add to make the ship believable. The consolation is that I will never be doing that again... The next time I will replicate the tiny bits will be by designing and having them made into photo-etch.. Which will be my "Exterior" Kit as I said on my posted poll. I have all the measurements and info, but no time to put onto paper or PC yet......as I'm working heavily to complete the Hanger Deck & Island Interior kits for my clients..and later for the mass market.
Thus, the scratch building details is pretty much a basis for what's in store for the Exterior kit.

BTW, I have no idea how the heck to link the image Full Size, so go to my picasa album for close ups

Thanks Guys!

I was really lost with what stuff to put into the hanger..obviously there would be a lot...just couldn't really tell from the detail & scale book's B&W photos..

Anyways, I did notice crates, containers and tins of what look like paint..of course! ..all stored on wooden pallets. Looking at photos from "newer" carriers..I figured I'd also add various boxes as well as the ---------- Big Plastic or Metal barrels ----------not sure if they had these back then...Anyone????

What else can I add into the hanger of a 1988 Carrier??????????????????

(For my clients who ordered the Hanger Decks, the stuff here will be included in the kit, I am however working on those masters so that they can be cast in resin with the least chance of air bubbles. It's pretty darn tough because everything is so freaking small! )

Took about a day's worth of work......
Please let me know what you think, Painting suggestions will be Appreciated!!

Pallets

Standard Drums & Pallets

Paint Tins & Pallets

Big Plastic or Metal Barrels

Various stuff

DONE!, just need to paint and glue down in the Hanger!

Stunning Nick, just stunning. This carrier is the best I’ve seen in person or online hands down. I just ordered Eduards PE pre-painted figures for mine, that’s if I get back at it after looking at yours. Looking forward to your next update.

Happy Modeling,
Joe

Thanks Mardis, I got your email and I'm waiting your reply.. And real curious to know "which" carrier.

Joe, Thanks! Really! It's Great to see you on this part of the site too! I would love to see your approach on this ship.. Don't take too long Bro!
PS:I'll reply your mail soon as possible..

OK here's a quickie... Decals done for this part..

My original artwork is sharp enough, but I couldn't print it out the same quality..
Anyways the artwork will be sent for professional printing for my Hanger Kits.. so they will be fine..

Jaw dropping... Can't believe I've missed this so far. The cargo is simply amazing. Find any replacement for the Mk2 Eyeballs yet? I could use some too...

Cheers!

I hate to tell you this, but in the 80's and early 90's at least, the lower color on the hanger bay walls was only blue from the fire doors to the EL. 4 opening on the port side. For the rest of both hangers it was dark grey, same as the deck. The detail and scale book does say blue, but it is WRONG. That color blue denoted command areas, in this case that section of hanger wall that was blue was over the XO's and Command Master Chief staterooms on the second deck below. Hanger wall detail looks very good. Only thing off the top of my head is there is a double wide WT door on the port side JUST forward of the CV-6 mural that goes to a passage with ladders both up and down, the another double WT door out to the boat sponson.

I am very interested in how you did the aft wall of the hanger and the jet engine test shop. I have never seen this depicted even close to accurately.

Also, the large green canisters, which are very big, were all over Hanger Bay 2, and held spare jet engines.
