Ohoy Mates

I'm preparing to order a huge load of PE and Brass barrels for my 1/700 Full Hull Yamato (Late Vers.) for the MSW Community Contest build.

I'm going to take this model to a degree close to ridicoulous Every single barrel and gun will be brass.

EDIT: I already have the GMM PE set .. and have just ordered the Tom's Modelworks PE set.

Sofar I've found all the 18.1", 6.1" and 5" I need, although the 6.1"s are backordered at HLJ at the moment .... but I'm going to order them .... don't need them the first couple of months anyway

However I'm a little lost with what PE sets I need for the AA guns (25mm and 13,2) ... I've been looking at the 25mm Set I and Set II from Lionroar .. but I'm not sure if those are the ones I need ... and what amount I need.

Could any of you guys assist me a bit, by helping me in choosing the right etch for the AA guns ??? (I'm building the late version, so I need 52 triple 25mm AA guns, 6 single 25mm AA guns and 2 double 13.2mm AA guns)

I've just ordered "Anatomy of a ship: Yamato" plus the Movie "Otoko-tachi no Yamato" .. looking forward to see it!

Hope you can help me, making this an awesome little Yamato Display Model!

You're on the right track, mate....Tom's set is good, and also the Lionroar sets...you may also want to look into Veteran Models aftermarket accessories, they have a fantastic selection of 1/350, and are beginning to release more 1/700 too....you can also give Burkhardt Masch of BMK, an e-mail request, he's a master machinist who makes the finest turned brass barrels for us shipwrights available today, IMHO...he does specials and customs as well, and if he can make the barrels that you are looking for, you won't be dissapointed....................

Doing that in 1/700 isn't ridiculous.

Doing it in 1/250 as I am on my Musashi... Now that's ridiculous! The cost of the main guns alone could buy a pretty well fitted out 1/700 Yamato. Yikes!

You should be able to have everything you need in triple 25s by buying three sets of Lion Roar Gun Set II (14 each of triple, double and twin 13s), and one set of Gun Set I (for the single 25s). You'll have a lot of left-overs, but enough for future builds.

I highly recommend you get Model Art's Modeling Guide for the Yamato. It's a huge help. Actually, just read my build log on the 1/250 Musashi and I have a group of books listed and pictured that will easily help you build any kind of Yamato you want.

I don't know if Lionroar does 700 scale, but for 350 they have a Yamato superset that covers it. In 700 scale I don't of anyone who makes guns that tiny. If you did the brass thing they would probably be 2d

Yes, Lion Roar does make 1/700 as discussed above. I've got a lot of their 1/700 stuff.

Here's the single 25mm guns:

And the doubles and triples:

And yeah, they're 2D.

Hey Dade

Thanks mate ... your help is truly appreciated ..... I'll order those 25mm AA sets for sure ....

he he tell me about the brassbarrels for the 1/250 .... I have the 1/250 Yamato in my stash .. as a donorkit for a studioscale Battlestar Galactica project ... but I'm going to cast the parts I need ... and then either build the Yamato or resell it .... the future will show.

I did plan on buying that book, plus the Super Illustrations book.

I'll check your links!

Thanks again

Another question ..

I've just received my "Anatomy of a ship: IJN Yamato" today .. All I can say is ... FREAKING WAUW ...

I'm about to order the Yamato Modeling guide from HLJ .. and I'm considering another book .. but I'm not sure which to choose ... the Super Illustrations .. or the book with pictures of the 1/10 Yamato ??? ....

Any ideas ??

I've just prepared a pretty extensive list of PE I need to order .. and I do mean Extensive .. lol .... but it should cover both the Yamato and the Full Hull 1944 IJN Ise I'm ordering at the same time .... plus give me plenty of PE spare parts.

So once I get some feedback on which book to chose .. I'm pretty set to go ..... my hobbyshop friend might not have all the PE in stock for me by the 1st of June ... but it will have been ordered.

I plan to start the Ise at the same time, to test different techniques .. and I hope to her finished by the 1st of November .. just in time for a local contest ... plus I'll join the Pre-Dreadnought Campaign at that date!

Happy modelign!

No need for help anyway!

I dropped the Super Illustrations vs. 1/10 Yamato .. and have instead ordered the IJN Battleship Perfect Guide .. so I'll also have some references for my IJN Ise build.

Does the rules prohibit buying further references once the project is started .. or is that another matter ???

Just for the future, if this decision comes up again, definitely buy the Super Illustrations book. In many ways I prefer it to the Skulski book. Its standard layout and notes make for a better modeler's book than the Skulski book. In fact, I barely even use the Skulski book.

The 1/10 Yamato book, while nice, doesn't seem to "click" as well for modeling.

arghhhhh DARN .....

My goods has just been shipped from HobbySearch .... and the Full Hull IJN Ise (for my side project) was out of stock ...... .. oh well .. better the Ise that the Yamato.

But now I want to find another little sideproject .... just to get started on a ship .. and get some experience, before I mess up my Yamato-build ... hmmmm I'm going to my friends hobbyshop tonight ... I know he has a bunch of 1/700 Sakura's .. perhaps I should relieve him of one of those ..... would be a rather small .. but nice little project! I'll better start looking for some Sakura references!
