Thanks, Kevin. The rigging is a little fanciful (doesn't quite correspond to the general references), but I think it worked out pretty well given that this was the first time I've tried rigging a 1/350 model. The tippet turned out to be pretty easy to work with once I got it figured out. Next time, I'm going to pay more attention up front to where I intend to anchor the rigging and prepare the attachment points earlier in the build. I appreciate your kind words. Thanks again!

May 20, 2009: I tried taking some "final" pictures outside in the daylight (now that spring finally has arrived here). I'm not entirely happy with them, but because of some upcoming travel, I'm not sure when I'll have the chance to do better. I want to thank everyone for their kind comments during the course of the build. I especially want to thank the other build participants (both full model and OOB, both completed and still in progress) for so generously sharing their methods and experiences. From my point of view this "contest" wasn't so much about the competition, but about the pleasure of being associated with such an outstanding group of modelers. As Guido said, "Bravo Zulu" everyone.

Looks gorgeous barrry! And ditto of what you said about the contest... I have learned a TON on the last 12 months from all the WIPs. I already copy/pasted some of your "rigging info" so I can try on my WWI Warships GB (Emden)
Cheers!

Hi friends,

Just a quick follow-up on my Ellyson model. I always intended it as a gift for a family friend who served in Ellyson from 1942-1945. Soon after finishing the model a lot of stuff happened - losing my job, adopting a couple of stray dogs, looking for work, etc. and it wasn't until last week that I was able to get the model to him (he lives about a 1000 miles away and my sister was able to deliver it). All I can say is that he was exceptionally pleased and grateful. He called me as soon as he got it and was near to tears in gratitude -- I felt a little guilty because the build was so much fun -- He talked about how many memories the model revived and how much it meant to him to receive the model. It got me thinking about how few WWII vets are still around and about how much pleasure we can give them by sharing the results of our hobby with them. This is the third model with special meanings that I've been able to give to a vet and in all cases it was a very rewarding experience.

Hope you're all doing well. Barry

Barry,

You no doubt have made a man very happy and at the same time gave yourself a very good feeling deep down inside. It is great hearing that you were able to finally deliver the model as you had planned so long ago.

I wish I could more than Thank you for making an old vet happy, but Thank you.
