Skipper,
Obviously this has been an extremely popular release, because quite a few of us have purchased these. But I definitely applaud your choice for the build - now I get to see what it is supposed to look like !
Thanks for the build blog, and keep us updated. Semper Fi ..........................Bruce

Aye, Skipper!
Good going! I thought your were in for a BB-35! Nice surprise! This one will be all about rigging in the end! (That's why I decided aginst a pre-dreadnought for the competition! )
Gook luck!

Hi Guys

Thanks for the incentive
I haven't done anything (vacations) but will start tomorrow working on it, although from what I have studied from it so far, I have some doubts about the steel main deck color.... Have to dig a little deeper

Very cool Skipper. I'm waiting on IHP's Connecticut so I can build the Louisiana.

Hey, Rui, is it white on both port, and stab - or is it the other way round - hehe.

A seriously nice kit by Niko, and it goes a long way to putting you on the road to a great build - it test drives you! - rather like the Averoff you have to live up to the quality of the kit.

So, what's the scenario, are you going to replicate the photo?

Bets wishes.

Yep - after my latest post about your Averoff I needed that

Hi guys

Just a "small" update.
Primed the little Texas with white primer, experimented a painted area of buff (not actually buff, but a yellowish color, since I find the hue of original photos too dark for a light buff color - so I can consider this an Artistic License), painted the decks teak and applied a artist oils (burned sienna) on both teak and "buff" color.

Here are the photos...

Primed and "Buffed"

Bow deck painted

All decks painted

Oils applied and still some details of aft deck to be painted in Buff, and next steps (apply artists oils and dry brush)

Although Marlboro don't sponsor my builds, the pack of cigarettes is a good handle and gives size comparison (for smokers, of course!).
I have not painted the white hull, since some of the weathering steps are a little messy

Comments welcome as usual

The deck looks very nice.

What did you use on the wooden deck?

Deck color used was Humbrol Authentics Teak Deck - an old paint I have from the 70's!!!
It's very similar to WEM IJN Deck Color

After painted and cured I gave it a slight wash of burned sienna artists oils, and after this dried, dry brushing with the original color

Hope this helps

I too like your deck swabbing, mate

Matos'terpiece
That's a good one Mark!

Now I want to ask something, that no one pointed out:
- What do you think about the Buff color I used? Way off? Could work? Should I change it to a lighter one?
Comments, gentleman, please?

Rui, my friend, IMHO, the buff that you have chosen looks as good as any of the available artist renderings that I have ever seen of this beautiful vessel...keep steady ahead!

I can’t comment on the Buff. Don’t have a clue what its supposed to look like so.

OÏ Rui, I hope so!! Artistic licence is everything diorama should be about -look at a boat when there is a storm, and then look at the same boat by the broad daylight, and they won't have the same colour because the light plays with the colour.
And anyway, no living man today can actually contradict you

Rui-
Nice progress! That deck looks very nice and the buff looks good to me to.
I can remember last year at the open harbour days at Kiel. There were 20 + warships of various nationalities in the harbour. The colour ranges were from almost white to bluish grey and to that very dark Russian grey. We had sunny weather with intermittent cloud cover and some rain showers. Believe me you could have taken a new photo every 30 seconds to prove hat there is no such thing as a "constant shade look".
I heavily support the "Artistic License" bit of yours!
