Hi guys

Job usually gets in the way of this pleasure things, so...
Well, back to business!

I had some issues with this model, while trying to dry fit some parts for the next step!
The boat deck (where all the ship's boats are going to rest) interferes with all the weapons already placed.
The walls where it sits are short, so it doesn't fit at all. Some surgery will need to be made, so that the parts are level all the way, or this could turn a card castle...

I also did a little research on some of my very old books:
9 years ago I have bought 18 volumes (1~18) of the britishThe Navy and Army Illustrated Magazine and on the 6th volume (each has about 800 pages) I was able to find an article divided in several numbers, on the Spanish American War.
Although most of the reading is very interesting and fresh (written as it was going!) most of the images were ink illustrations, dramatic, but with very few modeling substance!
A few numbers forward, they start to describe both fleets, with period photos, and....
dated August, 18th, 1898 here it is: USS Texas

This was a great found, and it will serve to enhance the model with some details:
- On the (for now) problematic area, it is visible a perforated girder (?) that it will be replicated with Lionroar perforated bar PE set, and will solve my issue!
- The turret looks to be more to the center of the ship - but I will not deal with this major issue!!!
- The turret "barbete" support is vertical, not tapered and this I will correct.
- Comparing with the above picture of USS Texas, there are new pilot houses (bow and stern), although these are already supplied in the model.

Model photos asap

Great find, Rui!

And yes, the job, and life in general does get in the way of the finer things, I agree...
Sounds like you have a very solid game plan though, and will conquer the evils!
Waiting for the next installment (and, no, I haven't even started on my entry yet, my friend...)
Cheers,
~Mark

Ahhh, found another of your "secret projects"!!!!
Interesting ship indeed. Will be a good companion, eventually, to my Graf Spee in the next shows around!!!!
Good work. Keep the photos coming!!

To Mark:

Keep the spirit and you'll get it done!
Just take your time and when it's the right moment it will start and than it's when the real problem will arise: To model or to stay online?

To Filipe:
The secret one is still secret! Not this one
Looking forward to see more progress on your Graf Spee!
Have you been able to discover what were those big canisters on the stern??

Cheers
Rui

EDIT: This is also a test for the pre-dreadnought Cruzador D. Carlos. Just to get the feeling of these complicated ships

Nope...nothing so far on the canisters. I guess I will leave that issue for later in the model. Though I am more keen to get some more info regarding the back of the 11'' main turrets. Can't find anything useful (either photos or plans).

Filipe

Rui,
Your build blog is very interesting - especially since we both are building the Texas ! At least when I see yours, I know what it is supposed to look like. Actually since you're doing yours in Pre-war colors, I might have to take a look at doing mine in War Colors. have to see what the web has available.

That and I'll have to get serious about getting the build going. Keep up the Great work !
