Hi all,
This is my attempt at Revell's 1/72 u-boat. As the the title suggests i'm depicting U-69 in and around 1943. Thanks go out to Dougie Martindale who provided some excellent photo's to help me on my way.

The photo's are as it looks as of now. The idea right from the start was to build this on a reasonable budget. That said i was willing to use some aftermarket set's that i felt would add the biggest bang for my money.

These were to be....Nautilus wooden deck's, CMK exterior set and Eduard PE set. Also, it was to be painted without the use of my airbrush.

Anyway have a look at the pix (hopefully!) and let me know what you think,
I've got loads of photo's right back to day one if the interest is there.

Cheers
Sav.

PS Click on the photo's tab to view the pic's (I thought they would show within the post)

Hi Mark thanks for the welcome,

Things have not progressed at the rate i would of liked them to since i first got in touch with you via Wink Grise.

My work commitments have now settled down agian and things should start moving on with U-69. I'll go through the photo's i have and get them sent off to you.

Thanks once again, great site by the way!

Hi Dave

Your U-69 came out really good! I know that Dougie is a knowledgeable entity in U-boats and their characteristics, but the fact that you know him isn't a guaranty that the end product is a smasher! Well, this is not the case - on the other hand is a wonderful job you have made there, from what I can see! I really love your underwater weathering - very very realistic!!!!
Congratulations Dave!

I have to echo Mark on a Feature request
Cheers and welcome to MSW

Hi Skipper,

Thanks very much for the kind words.
The weathering below the waterline was my second attempt as i'd already spent God knows how long in this area and called it done! After a few day's of looking at it i decided that it looked nothing like what i was seeing in the photo's i'd 'Googled' off the net. So....I did it all again.....over a coat of matt varnish though, just in case i ballsed it all up, this way (Hopefully) i would be able to wipe it all off and start again......maybe!

Cheers Wink,

I'm glad you like it, after all it's your fault i started it in the first place

There is still quite a long way to go yet, but i guess i'll have to pull my finger out now. I've sent a load of pic's off to Mark and will be doing a write up to go with it, so, that will be the 'kick up the arse' i need to see it through to the end!

Hi all,

Well, i kinda ran out of steam on this build for a while and needed to take a break from it.

But with re-newed gusto i'm back on the case.
After a bit of a chat with Dougie Martindale we came to the conclusion that it was reasonably possible for U-69 to still have the net cutters in place at about the time i'm depicting her.

So out came the Eduard PE and off went Revells rendition of the cutters. I decided that the frame supports for the deck cutter would look better done with brass rod, and indeed they do. But, let me tell you now it was a easier to think it than it was to do it!!
I've included a couple of photo's of the finished result in me album (Just how do you get photo's to show up here?) A lick of paint and some weathering should have them looking summat like.

Any comments are welcome, just don't ask me to make any more net cutters!!

Hi Wink,

Yes it's looking something like now. I'm working on the rigging at the moment, no easy task but i'll get there.......hopefully. I'll be along to your site soon after one of those fantastic flags you do.
