Ahoy, Mardis!

I take it from your post, is that you're in the process of scratch-building a 1964 CVAN Enterprise in 1/350 scale, correct?...well, mate, we're all waiting to see it! How far along are you in the project?

At one time there was a "bee-hive" Enterprise out there. I had just gotten the Tamiya version and my sister had given me the Nimitz for christmas so I was not going to invest more in another super carrier. What I had hoped to find was a conversion set and then planned to do the Nimitz up in Tomcats ala "Final Countdown" and the Entrprise in VIetnam Phantoms. Well as I did the Nimitz with the PHantoms and already invested in Tomcats and Hornets for the as yet unbuilt Enterprise. So much for that. I do look forward with great interest to your bee-hive. If you have molding stuff, cast me a copy, I still may retro the two kits.

Hi Steve, the two Supercarriers I'm making are out of cardboard, papercard and plastic sheets. When I get to my Bee-hive I'll make you one. Here are some photos I'm a long way from doing my island. http://s129.photobucket.com/albums/p226/raider-hall/100_1116.jpg http:/is1219.photobucket.com/albums/p226/raider-hall/100_1121.jpg http://s129.photobucket.com/albums/p226/raider-hall/100_1122.jpg http://s129.photobucket.com/albums/p226/raider-hall/100_1123.jpg http://s129.photobucket.com/albums/p226/raider-hall/100_1124.jpg http://s129.photobucket.com/albums/p226/raider-hall/100_1125.jpg BigE and JFK,more next week.

I was thinking you would be using the Tamiya kit and modifying it, but then I remembered you like waterline. Very ambitious. I will greatly appreciate a copy of the beehive island. More than likely I will use it when I do my Tamiya kit as it is so different looking. I'll just pull the Phantoms off the Nimitz and put the Tomcats I bought on it. Of course digging them out of the hanger deck may be a bit more difficult.

The hull shape is coming along nicely. Are you going to have open doors to show hanger deck. The only thing I've done to my kit was after getting the Nimitz which had all that was to cut some styrene pieces out to glue in the open hanger doors and I plan to put a few folded up aircraft on them to 3d the hanger a bit rather thn just leaving a dark empty hole as the kit gives you.

Your hull and hanger deck look marvelous. I assembled that goofed up hull Tamiya did and laid out a partial hanger deck to cover the open elevator doors several years ago. But haven;t really wanted to get into doing a carrier for a few years. I've got so many BB's in the stash right now with all the Companies just cranking them out.
