Hello again . At our club meeting last night, a friend of mine said he recieved a Tamiya 1/700th scale Enterprise from a friend of his but the kit doesn't have the decals. He asked me to try to find out if he can contact Tamiya, or is there an after market company out there that makes them? Having no knowledge of ships, I told him I would try this site, since I received help here already from some of you. They would have to be for the battle of Midway (for our club display at the Cradle of Aviation on Long Island, NY.) Thank you in advance for any help !!

Hi Richard,

Gunny is right on with the Starfighter Decals. You want their # 700-4 US National Insignia
May 1942 /1943.

Gold Medal Models also makes a set of a/c decals. That # is 350-6D WWII USN Aircraft decals. This set is for both 1/700 and 1/350 planes.

The decals are probably not available for Tamiya. They supply only replacements for currant kits that are available in the States at this time. These decals would be wrong for your time period, they go with the a/c you get in the kit.

You can approxiamte. it would be a black 6 somewhere around 3/4 of an inch I would guestimate. Take it from a larger tank or airplane kit.

Sorry guys, I'm still learning the ship lingo. I believe they are called "Deck Markings' if they are for the ship. Thanks again for your help.

Hello Richard,

Go to www.cv-6.org. for the type of deck markings Enterprise had at that time.
Image Library-Dates-1942-April, May and June. The pictures shows three rows of stripes. The two outer rows run the lenght of the flight deck. The center ones runs between the midship elevator and the forward elevator. The stipres look like they are a foot wide, if that. In the sun the stripes have a yellow tint to them. In the shade they are a light gray/white color. The only other markings are the numbers marking of the distance to the end of the flight deck.

There is also a modeling thread on the Enterprise site that might be of help also.

When I did my "Midway" Enterprise, I maked off the stripes and painted them with a light coat of white followed by a light coat of clear yellow.

HTH
