Thanks for the tour Jan, too bad they had the conning tower blocked off. It would have been nice to have some shots of the decking and sail as well as those 20's and 37 up there. I guess they didn't want to have any touristas taking a header off there.

You can see it here, Jay:

Now, Jan, this is just the kind of teaser that pushes my buttons!
Thank you so much for sharing this Naval Museum with us!
Just the U-995 would justify the trip (for me), but....
Thanks,
Rui

Yes I know!
The main issue in convincing the Mrs is... Germany! The submarine issue is easy (we did tour the Navy Museums in Venice - Italy, Rio de Janeiro - Brazil and USS Pampanito and USS Jeremiah O'Brian in SF, Intrepid Museum (still with the DD USS Edson - a Forrest Sherman Class) NYC - USA with no stress and some admiration on the size of the ships: "So small" or "So big")
It's more a location issue, not the theme

In 1992 I was in Chicago and went to the Mueseum of Technology where they had a U-boot there you could go into. Is this the same one or is that another one. Also, if you notice, this one lacks the 88mm deck gun. Years ago when serving in Germany in the late 70's I was invited over to a Stammtisch in a Gasthaus where I got to meet 3 surviving U-booters. I felt very priveledged. I also met scads of tankers when we were out on a reforger aroud the same time

What's nice about the photos is that they seem to have been planned and taken with the intention of showing the good bits we all want to see as reference! Well doneJan (and Mark).
