Mind you, I am not complaining, but holy cow Batman we sure are getting buried alive by all the 350 scale offrings rolling out. So far this year I have bought the Nagato, Kongo, San Francisco, and Reicheliou. They have released a Haruna and within the next month or 2 we can expext the Akagi, Kirishima, Ise, and the Repulse. Then there is the Shokaku, Fuso, and Prinz Eugen that have been announced. Man oh man the costs for the kit with adequate PE and the space required to put these puppies out on display. I sure would like to be that fella. Oh I also forgot about the time. I think Dade and Frank are the only ones that can keep pace. Of course my problem is all the Armor kits I want to build as well. Like an M1a1 AIM and a 155 set up with gun , tractor and figures.

One advantage in being single is having the space to stow all these beauties. I won't be satisfied until every ship is represented in 1:350!

I am just to darn lazy is my problem. Then there is the space issue as well.

My wife thought the K5 rail gun was big. Sure Saratoga is not as big, but none the less she is a good size lady.

But, we are living in wonderful times!

Hi Steve,

For what it's worth, since I work out of the home on CG and scale models, I think that's the only reason why I can somewhat keep pace. It's also good that the girl is a novelist and only really works her "day job" a couple days a week. We end up not having a lot of money in the usual sense, but tons of time.

You know, I'm an armor and plane modeler also, but have spent all my time on ships over the past couple years (amazing I got that Betty and Ho-Ro done). I really feel your pain since by the same token, there are a bunch of tanks in my stash waiting to be built, but I can't figure out how to squeeze them in.

At last year's local model show, when I accepted the award for my Betty, the MC said, "And guess what, folks. This guy is actually a ship modeler!" It took me a second before I realized, that yes, I guess I am now a ship modeler more than anything else... and I'm pretty happy to be so.

For what its worth, I guess I am a ship modeler as well. I have pretty much all the major armor pieces I want except a good T-62. Every once in a while something comes out...like the Land Wasser Schlepper....that gets my attentiom, but heck, I picked that up from Luckymodel at $55. Right now I want every darn one of those 350 scale ships. I think most of us fear (and rightly so) that ths boom time is going to stop and then all the present kits will be off the market for years and years. As expensive as they are now, I'ld hate to see that Akagi selling for $500 on ebay with no PE. I figure I can squeeze in the Ise and get the GMM BB Pe set. I imagine there will be a girder set made for it too so I won't get away too easy.

We don't even know what Trumpeter has planned other than the Prinz Eugen. They won't do Japanese, but all those US and British cruisers as well as European BB's and CV's still give them plenty of material to draw from.

Just a quick note here:
Trumpeter and PitRoad work together. IJN subjects appear to be under PitRoad exclusivity, the other items are sold as PitRoad in Japan, and under Trumpeter label worldwide.

Speaking of Trumpeter, they don't really mind releasing Japanese stuff under their own name anymore. I'm looking forward to their (Pit-Road designed) 1/350 IJN Suzutsuki. I have the Pit-Road JMSDF Kongo released under Trumpeter's name, but they never had as much of an issue with the JMSDF. If the Suzutsuki does well, we'll see more Trumpter labeled IJN stuff.

I'm with Dade on this one, (keeping in mind that there's no way I could ever keep up with Dade's builds!!) I too am a build it all kind of modeller, and there are numerous Armour (Bronco A13, AFV Churchill MkIII, Tasca Sherman II...) and aircraft (Eduard I-16's, Eduard Bf 110's) models that I'd like to build in the coming months. The problem is the amount of time available. I can polish off an aircraft model in 2 to 3 days, an armour model in 4 to 5 days,.... but ships are just about the most time consuming models around. If you build OOB, yes you can build quickly, but any sort of detailing sets me back to months worth of modelling on one model. My Nagato is sitting idle until I complete my current work contract away from home (not going to risk damaging that beauty with 1000km round trip drives every week) and it has over 200 hours of build time on it, and is only half completed!

The models coming out in the near future all look great, but reality is setting in and I will purchase the new releases only after I have completed the current crop. As I stated recently, my Nagato now sits at $600,.... that's folks is a lot of money tied up on the shelves collecting dust.

Nah, I'm really not that fast. The Kongo is the only thing I'm moving along at a decent clip on. But look at the absolute snail's pace of the Hiryu (hopefully to be rectified soon...). And the fact that I haven't even started on the Nachi yet for my cruiser build. I'm gonna have to get off my butt next month and get to work on the Nachi... yikes!

Man, I hear ya. Sometimes I would just love to build something OOB, but can never help myself. I can't wait to see your Nagato, but I completely understand your reasons for the hiatus and would do the same thing in your position.

When the Akagi was first talked about way back when I was all set to go- cost no object, throw all of my resources into it. But now, things are a little more sobering with time and money. So, I'm a little more choosy about things. Unless I end up doing it as a build log/ review similar to the Kongo, I think I'm gonna sit this one out and, like you, get more of the current stuff done (as well as some smaller sized new releases like destroyers, escorts or CLs).

I pride myself on not having a "wall of death" like many modelers, where it is almost mathematically impossible to build my stash in a lifetime. I have a very good built/ unbuilt ratio, but all these new 1/350 heavies are seeing that ratio slipping. I gotta pull my ratio back in line...

Steve,

What is the "too much" you speak of? You realize any further reference to "too much stuff" could get you kicked out of the man cave! (Just kidding, of course....)
