Here''s my photo report of another successful event, this time IPMS UK''s Scale Model World 2008, held in Telford, England UK.

I hope that you like the models, and has I say in the beginning, sorry for some poor quality photos, but the lighting conditions and some glass/acrylic display cases makes this a hard task.

Rui, can you give us any more information on the "rough water" display base?

All I know is that they had two sets: Still Water and Rough Water.
It's a kind of resin that you layer up and in the case of Rough Water you can texture it.
The good think is that it should have a low temperature while curing or could damage severely delicate plastic parts (if you are working in 700, 400 or 350th scale).

Sorry if I can't help more... I though they were manufactured by Deluxe Materials, but I went to their site and they have it not listed there (although they told me it was a new product)

You have done us all a great service by providing such comprehensive photo coverage.

Seeing so much high grade modeling is like watching the Olympics, it's just good to see quality performance.

That 1:144 Fletcher looks somewhat sparse on molded details, particularly on the deck houses. I wonder if that was done to allow modelers to detail as they wished without having to scrape off unneeded parts?

I hope many of those Revell offerings make it to my side of the pond... I see the old classic Abe see-thru sub re-released.. remember building couple those as a kid.

Amazing work but an even higher superlative to the small scale offerings... and what a difference a water base makes! Something for me to start learning how to do...

The weathering on the icebraker is one of the best I have ever seen.... love the sub display area!

In my 20 odd years of attending model shows, I have never seen neither the quantity and more impressively, the quality of ship models that Telford displayed.

Thanks for posting all these pictures. It makes me realsize that I hardly saw anything else besides our own booth! It was actually hard to get away from it, because of the many visitors coming up to our display. The time spent away from the booth was mostly to search the sales stands for the necessary replenishments and for new and exiting material.

Even though after 2 days we were truely exhausted, I should like to have an extra day just to have a good look around the other SIG stands.

In any case the effort and cost of getting the stand to Telford was well worth our while. Great feedback from the visitors and a trophy lay proof of a truely great show for us!
Special thanks must be awarded to the IPMS UK for making the show possible in a seemingly super-human effort. It was truely a pleasure to have been there again!

To Jay: well.... I can say that my luggage was filled with boxes
All resin, from 1/35 to 1/700, some PE sets, some WEM paints and a Model Art Waterline special Nº30
As we were saying at Finewaterline stand: It's Christmas Time!!

To Jean-Bernard: I have entered two models in the competition (Naval Dioramas) at got a Bronze
But even if I didn't got any, I would be happy! As I said before, the competition would be tough... but everything is surpassed be the meeting and talking with friends!!

Both Icebreakers (Artica and Soya) are from Frank Spahr from German Gamblers team (a high quality stand, as you can see from the photos - which don't make justice to the models)

Thanks for posting such wonderful pictures, Rui! But now I'm really envious of two things: that I couldn't go, and of the modelers' skill! One of these days, I really have to try to go...

You try spending weeks building and rigging a ship only to have somebody lean over and knock off the masts and rigging you have worked so hard on. If you really want to take a photo you can always ask, I would never submit my models to the carelessness of some people at model shows.

Can't agree enough, I think we should close the doors for one day to allow those manning stands to do some shopping and have a look around, I had a couple of hours on sunday to do that but otherwise hardly at all. Still quibbles aside it was a great show and meeting old friends was reason enough.

Yes, I have to agree with Mike, and if I can attend SMW09, I will take my models with display cases.
This year I caught some "flak" on one of my models, and even if it is easily remade to original form and shape it made me

Although the display cases makes photography a difficult job, it really protects the models from prowling hands or eventual misfortunes by coats, scarfs or any other hanging material!
We are not looking for our models around the clock, so better safe than sorry
