350 Akagi aircraft.....Zero is listed as all over Mitsuhishi grey and the Kate as Nakajima green on top silver underneath. So what are close Model Master colors. I think they do an IJN green and grey. Silver ? I would have gone with the gray. would this be a brigt shiny silver or something closer to the aluminium color. I posted this over on the Airplane channel, but I generall forget to look over there after a while as I so very rarely post anything over there

I went to local hobby shop and they were out of the Navy green in Modelmasters. So I was looking at the Army green. Just didn't look right. Then it dawned on me. I'll be hand painting these little jewels so why not use acrylic. So I checked and found both colors in the Tamiya paint section. I also got a small set of hobby clamps. Total bill $17. And they wonder why most of us no longer go to Hobby shops.

Hi Steve,

Sounds like a good answer to your problem to me, I like the Tamiya Acrylics and the colors are pretty good, unless you run into one of their kits that starts listing percentages of this and that to make up one that they don't make as is.

The LHS is sadly becoming a thing of the past with the many online shops that carry everything at prices that are hard to beat. I am fortunate in that the LHS here in Vegas is a pretty fair Hobbytown USA that is owned by a modeler/RC nutcase. He comes up with some pretty good deals on a regular basis so I try to support his efforts whenever possible. A good case in point is the Hasegawa IJN Yukikazi kit in 1/350 that I scored, it was cheaper than any of the online shops and factoring in the $5 off coupon that I had from a previous purchase made it even more so.

Colors covered here. Tamiya has an exact match for the zero.

What a great document Tracy. I've managed to pick up some bits and pieces here and there, but that just put it all together. Well, you know me, I spend montha and months gathering info, PE and other goodies all the while working dilgently on other kits in other genre's. I'm sure I won't even touch the Akagi for a year. But as I was between major projects and didn't want to dive into anything serious, I thought I'll work up the few aircraft that came with the kit. So if time became a factor, I could quite easily set them aside.
