Hey Kenny,
Looks like a nice build. You didn't ask for feedback and you can tell me to back off if you want but... when the boat is in surface trim next to the pier, the stern planes are completely submerged. It needs to sit lower in the water. Maybe I'm jumping the gun and you plan on using some type of epoxy for the water. The other comment would be that the buildings in both Bangor and Kings Bay were built in the late 70's/early 80's. That admin building looks like it came from Groton circa 1930

Anyway I like your idea and could give you some ideas on what they look like next to the pier with all the hoses and lines etc. but then you wouldn't necessarily have a quick build.

Looks nice so far, keep it simple and "doable" if its meant to get you going again.

Thanks Jan.
Rob, I do plan on having the waterline higher. I will probably embed the sub in the base to bring the waterline up.
The building isn't part of the dio, just the sub and dock. If I remember correctly, somebody made some WWII vehicles such as buses, tractor trailers and such. Does anybody remember who?

WEM has a few items - trucks and trains, Battlefleet Models has some rubberdinghys, Take a look over at WEM you might find something you can use.

Thanks Jan. I found them at Loose Cannon. Cars, tractor trailers, buses. I'll probably do a dio of Higgins Industries in New Orleans. I'll put a LCP on the back of a flatbed truck.

Looks like a great start Kenny... lots of good info in a few posts; never thought of water levels or matching dock items to a time period! Learn something new everyday in here

Ahoy mates!
Sorry for the delay. The Louisiana stalled out in the shipyard. I was all ready to cut down the hull when I realized that I didn't have a mandrel for a dremel cutoff wheel. I would imagine that it is packed away with the rest of my tools in the deep dark cavern called the storage unit. Renee has promised to pick one up for me at Walmart this evening.

To second what Rob stated all the boats I have seen (both Ohio and Los Angeles class ships) sat ass low in the water with the bow sitting higher (not level) in order to hide the screws under water when in port.

Hey Scott,
Thanks for the tip. I've already made my cut and now she sits as she should.

I finally made myself take some time to do some some modeling. Man, my skills are a little rusty. Anyway, here's the Louisiana with a base coat of hot rod gray primer and a shade darker textured walkway.

She needs to be cleared with Future to start the weathering process.
Here is the dock attached to the water base. The water is good old Gator Glue. Once its dry, I'll come in with my colors and then give it a coat of Future.

Comments welcome.

Hey Kenny, i don't know how i missed this one, it even says LOUISIANA in the subject but did i look? no.
this looks really good. it just goes to show that a simple little model can become a piece or art in the right hands. i hope to see this one in person.

she gonna have full crew, (what's the term?) manning the boards? you know, lined up around the edge? i really don't know my navy terms so you guys probably get a good laugh at me trying to talk navylike and butchering it up.
anyway, it should be another good one.

Hey Billy,
She'll have maybe a half dozen manning the rails (on deck) and a few in the sail.

Hey guys. I'm hoping to get her wrapped up this weekend. I've had some weekend projects that needed to get done around the cabin and I've got those pretty much wrapped up. The last project will be done today. I'm installing wagon wheels to a large rubber tote to make hauling Gator's Masks stuff to contest.
