I am planning on building the USS Tiaconderoga (CV14) here shortly, and I want to do her in the Measure 33/10a scheme. The question I have is what's the best way to do the railings? Attach the railings prior to painting the ship, mask as necessary, and hope the railings don't get ripped off with the tape (or Gator Mask)? Paint the railings grey and attach to the ship after the camo scheme is painted?

I have issues!

Hey James,

I always put my railings on last, but that's a personal preference.

I also put them on last. Railings can get messed up really easy so I put them on last then do the touch up painting.

Thanks. That's sort of the way I was thinking. Would the railings match the camo scheme, or would they just be grey?

A lot of it depends on scale also. If it's 700 and you just paint primary gray color, it more than likely won't be noticable except under close scutiny. 350 just paint them all grey , attach and then go back and touch up different camo areas. NOt real difficult. I did it with NOrth Carolina and Missouri and more than likely my "Bama.
