I hate to ask a question that makes me feel as though I am in need of remedial help, but I am. I'm new to ships, built lots of tanks, a couple of u-boats, but that was several (20 +) years ago. Now, I'm building the Taimya 1/350 Fletcher, and need help. The question is simple, its the answer that escapes me. How do I go about painting the verticle/horizontal surfaces two different colors, and make it look right? Were any of these monochrome? Is it just a matter of a lot of masking? I really ejnoy building, but I'm stumped on this.
PS: I don't yet own an airbrush.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks to all!

Scott,
The US Navy designed a series of camouflage measures for their ships. Each measure specifies a specific color be used in a specific way. As with the Measure 31-32-33 series, which specifies the colors used, the second set of numbers refers to the specific pattern.
I hope this helps somewhat.

Mike AShey wrote couple books on basic shipbuilding, which he posted on his website as PDFs for free. A tad dated, but still lots of good (and free!) info on basic shipbuilding techniques. http://mikeashey.com/

I've used Gator masks on 2 battleships so far. The N.C. and the Bama. (did I mention that ALABAMA is the National Football Champion lately). ----anyway-----I love the way they came out. I have another set for my Hornet when Iget around to it. And if anything else comes up I'll get some for that.
