Hmmm, 140USD for such a large, very detailed ship is not a bad price.

Even if it equates to around £140 in the uk, still works out good value for money in my books, looking at the built test shots, much of the etch provided looks pretty good, If so, I hope the Aftermarket boys don't duplicate it, and just give us what is missing.

So far the price does seem fair considering what comes with this lady. When compared to similar ships it seems to be consistent.

On a side note, Free Time has her for $129. So, there might be some other deals if you look.

I have had her on place holder pre-order since it was allowed about a month ago. I am so looking forward to this. Now all I will have to do is back date her and the PE to Operation Cerberus.

If some enterprising retailer can knock the kit out at $99 it has my vote.
I'm sure there's some more room for manoeuvre on price.

After all, right now it's a hard old station out there for many of us.

An old 1/700 'free kit included' just doesn't do it for me. so they can keep that one and knock $40 off the rrp instead.

On the other hand, due to the impressive detail of the parts and PE included, you may not need to buy AM products to get a nice build, making the price even more attractive.

i put a pre-order in for this one .Doesn't look like they included railing PE. Seems kind of strange with all what else they included. If not, it's no biggie to pick up a german railing and a ladder set from Eduard.I do kind of agree with Dave. Why include a 1/700 kit? Would rather have more PE, brass tubes, and propellers.

No PE railings? I never noticed that omission.

Even Trumpeter now include a certain amount of railings PE with their ship kits.

Seems very odd to me, and makes it even less attractive pricewise.

Maybe another manufacturer will do a rival!

There are four sheets of PE included, but the railings were left our to keep the cost down below a specific threshold, from what I've been told.

I'd sooner have had the PE railings instead of all the other fiddly bits.
So we are now expected to rush out and spend another $40 or so on PE railings now.?

At least any included railings would have made the kit look more complete once built.
Judging by the online pictures thus far, my guess is that many of the already included PE won't be seen once finished.

A ship kit like this without railings just doesn't look finished.

I can't help thinking that they've put the cart before the horse on this particular aspect.

No matter what price they charge and what they include not all of us will be happy. I was seriously hoping for much closer to $100 for the kit, but of course that was never going to happen.

But, when compared with other similar ships and what you get with her it does seem like a fair price.

Now for the builders in Europe, I can never figure out the pricing strategy for over there. Since the Pound is almost double the dollar I would think the kit would be about half the US price in Pounds, but it is the same price. So that basically means almost well over double the possible price. Sure there might be some import laws that cause this, but it sill makes no sense.

After seeing the Prinz Eugen and its price the Scharnhorst price is very fair. Compared to other battle wagons the price is also fair and I am sure there will be deals to be had after the initial wave of buying has died down. I hardly ever do a pre-order, but I did on this one.

I am 100% looking forward to seeing this kit in person and I cannot wait until she arrives in about a month from now, if the original time table still stands.

I got mine from Freetime for $129.95 plus $8.95 postage so add the railings and it comes in just at $150. Sure I wish it could be less, but i also coughed up $225 for the Akagi then another $250 for PE and wood decks and more Kates. If you want to play with the big boys, you gotta run with the pack. otherwise do 700 scale...smaller cheaper and still pretty darn good.

The omitted railings are available at Dragon Models USA's website for $20. If you buy them at the same time as the Scharnhorst kit you get them for only $10.

Couldn't agree more, Steve. This is RETAILING for $100 more than the Nagato, Ise and Kongo, and by all accounts, it's going to be as good, if not better, of a kit.

I, for one, can't wait for it to arrive.
