It could be me though... (regularly I am just one step removed from the guy who continuously tries to force a square peg into a round hole, while completely misreading the instructions for the square peg ) the problem was the wider but shorter vent (the left one of the two roughly in the middle of the picture), which seemed to have been too wide - on both sides. The difference is not much (probably around 0.2 mm).

How is everyone doing? Any progress on your ship you care to post? My Tama is coming along nicely. I realized today that a few more details and I can start rigging! I still cannot decide if I should attempt a waterbase mounting or not. I think I may do it and even put a few figures on deck which is something I've never done to my IJN ships before.

I am working on the turrets of my two german pocket BBs (Lutzow and AS). Figuring out how to replace plastic barrels with metal ones, a first for me. Took me awhile to match the proper year configuration with what I can do with the Fujimi kits. Both will be Norway campaigns; Lutzow 1940, Admiral Sheer 1942 with disruptive camo. Below I enclose couple great timeline reference web sites:

A ship history : Heavy Cruiser Lutzow

A ship history : Heavy Cruiser Adm Scheer

Ahoy there! I've made some progress on my 1/700 Trumpter USS Astoria. The deck is just dry fitted for the pics. I'm working on the turret assemblies and hope to have those finished this evening.

I've made some more progress on my Trumpeter 1/700 USS Astoria. For those who have this kit in the stash... be careful and pay attention to the sprue letters and part numbers to avoid doing what I did. I was watching the Raiders/Niners game last Sunday while working on the turrets, wasn't paying close attention, clipped off 3 turrets and 9 gun barrels and got to work.

As I was cleaning up the parts, I figured out almost right away that I had accidentally clipped off turret part C7 when I should have been using B3. Whew... disaster averted.

The Raiders were ahead and I was enjoying the game as I attached all the barrels to the turrets... only to realize that I had accidentally attached 3 incorrect barrels (parts C12) which are for use with the other turret design. Fortunately I was able to remove the 3 barrels (I had used 1 of the incorrect barrels on each turret) and was able to attach the correct barrels with no harm done to the parts.

Needless to say, the Raiders lost and I learned another valuable lesson... DOUBLE CHECK THE PART NUMBERS before removing the parts.

I'll be joining this campaign with Aoshima's 1/700 Yamashiro:

This will be my first ever ship build and I'm very excited to try something different other than just tanks.
I've also gone ahead and ordered FlyHawk's set for the Yamashiro and their 25mm Guns. These two sets and a wooden deck from MK1 will be the only aftermarket parts I'll be using, I don't want to overdo it.

I haven't received everything yet but I hope to be able to post pictures soon! Cheers!

Hi Steve!

Very good job on the IJN Mogami kit.
After having admired your photographs, I have felt compelled to deal the vessel in question.

Sincerely

Dolpff

Sorry guys,

I am not going to able to finish the ship in time... life got in the way in a major fashion. I am, however, determined to keep plugging away and finish this ship...

Cheers,

Harm

Hi Harm,

Just a friendly "heads up" that if you're interested in it, there's a "Big Gun Cruisers" group build over on modelwarships.com that runs through 3/6/11. It started on 11/27. I'm not sure how strict the "rules" are as far as if the model has to be started from scratch or if partial-builds are ok. Pop on over to the site and look under Forums, PicPost, Group Builds (it's part of the Calling All Ship Fans group). I'd love to see your build continue there since it has a later finishing date. The Hippers are amongst my favorite Heavies, right along with the Baltimores and Takaos.

Best wishes!

Hi Harm!

Sorry, but I gave you some 'misinformation'! The group build is NOT found in the Calling All Ship Fans section, but in the Picture Post section, directly below the "Calling All" bos.

Hope to see you there!

I made a switch from Emden to RM Pola, as I want to take more time building the Emden to do her justice. She's always been one of my favorite ships and I can't stand the thought of trying to rush a build of her and screwing up more than my normal amount!

Anyhow, I just started work on the 1/350 Pola. So many problems, so little time and so limited the skills! But, I'll do my best.

If all goes well with the uploads, there should be a pic of her hull (port holes opened), a pic of her forward superstructure ("bands" removed, port holes opened, "railings" removed for GMM replacements), and a pic of the lengthened replacement after-deck (Evergreen v-groove) that I cut to match the planking on diagrams I've seen.

Hi Daniel,

thanks for the head's up... but according to the regulations I will not be able to join --- I have done too much already, well before the start date... that said, I will follow the builds with interest.

Cheers,

Harm

This model : Imeprial Chinese Beiyang Fleet Flagship "Ting Yuen" is completed. On 4th February 1895, the Ting Yuen was seriously damaged after being hit by a Janpanese torpedo and later cannon fire. On 10th February, Captain Liu Buchan ordered the ship scuttled.

Very nice Ting Yuen, eMan!

I've made a lot of progress on the Pola, but there's too much Life in the way right now to finish her. I sent a PM to Anthony about a possible one-month extension for this Campaign, but have not heard back. I'll keep plugging away with my build regardless. I'd love to see more of the finished Cruisers or hear back in this Forum if anyone else would be interested in a one-month reprieve.

Happy New Year!
