Now that winter was upon us and the time for weekly yard work and outside "honey dos" was over, I was looking forward to modeling season and making some real progress on my latest project, Dragon's 1/350 U.S.S. Laffey DD-459. Then, Saturday before last disaster struck. I was coming down from the second floor of my house when my feet slipped on our wooden steps, went flying and I landed on my left wrist. Diagnosis - displaced fracture of my left arm just behind my wrist. Surgery is being done this coming Friday to put in a plate and screws. Not sure how long I'll be struggling along trying to build with one hand, but maybe I'll know more on Friday after the surgery. Keep your fingers crossed for me. Maybe I'll be back at my bench with two hands operational before too much time gets away from me.

how awful. Past experience with this sort of thing is that it does take time for recovery. I pray that yours will be speedy and discomfort free.

Get well soon Robert ! Nearly went flying myself this morning, stepping out of the car on an iced up road. Sounds like light work only for you for the time being
cheers,

Take care, modeling - among other things - are no easy task with only one hand.

Reseach can be done singlehanded on the other .. hand ..

What a disaster! I hope you can recover soon. Maybe the doctor will give you some good pain meds.

Bad news Robert, but you'll handle it. Had the rotator cuff done and took a little time to move comfortably but the show must go on. Just one thing, when you get all fuzzy, it aint the glue. And when you look at your work the next day remember it was you building that unreconizable thing in front of you. Pills can be helpful but can tax your next day review. Been there, done that, got the T-shirt and used it for a brush rag. And be carefull about how long you use them. Model on.

Thank you all for so many well wishes and kind thoughts. It really does help knowing that so many of you took time to post your comments. I had surgery on Friday to screw and plate the bones back together. It was an interesting experience. The anesthesiologist put a block in my arm just below my shoulder which totally numbed it. They were about to give propofol (the stuff that killed Michael Jackson) and I asked if I could stay awake and watch. The nurse looked at me like I was nuts but said "alright". It was pretty interesting. All I could see was the x-ray screen the surgeon was using to image the bones, so no blood and gore. Surgery took about an hour, with the Eagles on the sound system at my request. Since I wasn't put to sleep I didn't even have to go to recovery, just back to the pre-op room, got dressed and was out the door less than an hour after being on the table.
Doc says I'll be in a cast till Dec. 23, then into a removable brace. So, I should be back at the bench in a couple of weeks with two hands at my disposal. I can't think of a better Christmas present! Even beats a 1/200 U.S.S. Arizona.
So, thanks again for all your thoughts and kind comments.

Great news, I'm very pleased to hear it. Maybe you'll find that big USS Arizona under your Christmas tree.
