I got the Hipper for Christmas. I saw a wooden deck on ebay for the Eugen. I was wondering if it would work for the Hipper kit as well

Hi Steve,

Having both kits, Trumpeter have not cheated and used the same hull, the Prinz & the Hipper were mre like half sisters than sister ships. The Prinz is longer (I can' t remember the exact dimensions but it is noticable even 1/350th) and the superstructure is noticably different.

If I recall all the ships in the Hipper class were different from one another in one way or another. I have been wanting to get a Hipper, I also want a Graf Spee.

There are other wooden decks available. I do not recall if I have seen a Hipper deck, but will look.

I know MK1 Design makes it, the problem is locating someone who sells it

I got the Trumpy Graf Spee then bought all the goodies for her. I think I would have gotten the Academy Premium if it had been out at the time. it has all the PE and wooden decks.

for those that are interested. i found the set at BNA Modelworld out of Austrailia. Ordered it and got notification the same day that it had shipped. Prices are good and shipping was actually less than the shipping from either Great Models or Squadron.

Great site. It is amazing how different things cost in different countries.

I made sure to bookmark them.

As mentioned by Simon,

there is indeed a difference between the two or actually three ships of the class.

Prinz Eugen and Blücher were essentially the same, although the Blücher had the much more graceful "Atlantic" bow, similar to the Eugen.

The Eugen was wider and longer bow and (IIRC) stern, and this is indeed incorporated into the Trumpeter kits. Another major problem would be the completely different hangars (IIRC half sunk on the Eugen)

For a visual image, scroll down in this thread (which immediatley highlights the size of these as well:
