Mark,

Thank you for posting this here. I have been wondering about this kit for a while. Make sure to let us know about any problems you face when building. Also, do not be surprised if I ask about a feature when you are all done.

So, do you plan on a strictly OOB build?

Jim - Thanks for your reply! Yes, this will be an OOTB build - BUT- I am gonna add P/E railings. The kit comes with a small but very nice P/E fret. It has ladders, gun shields, cable reels, and various other fittings, but no railings are included. Here's a pic:

So far no real problems. The bridge and deck houses are all multi - panel affairs which fit OK, but are a bit fiddly.
A feature, eh? Not sure what that means but I'm interested!! LOL!
Again, thank you for your reply and happy modeling!

Hi Mark,

Looks good so far.

Nice to see etched sheilds for the light AA, but what are the mounts themselves like?

Am working on the Admiral Hipper and have ended up deciding to replace the kit mounts with WEM etch, as I felt they were a bit featureless.

Greetings fellow modelers! The build continues with a small update. I've got the major assemblies washed and I am dry brushing now:

I wanna tone down the rust on the hull a bit:

Here's some of the P/E included in the kit. The cable reels:

That's it for now. I will have some more soon. Thanks for lookin' and happy modeling!
Mark
Simon - The AA gun mounts are featureless - just solid cones molded with the guns.

Greetings fellow modelers! The build continues! I began adding the little details on the deck. Depth charges, mines, capstans, etc:

I toned down the heavy washes on the upper works and began adding some P/E:

Here are the bridge and deck houses mounted:

There is a nasty gap where the rear gun deck mounts to the works. I'm gonna fix that with some styrene and CA:

So far no real problems with the kit - except for Trumpeter's multi-panel breakdown of all the deck houses. Makes for some fiddly assembly. Most of the panel edges are angled, as opposed to straight making the joint a little weak. I found myself correcting the assemblies more than once.
Not that I'm complaining - I LIKE to build and this is a builders kit!
Thanks for lookin' and comments/critiques welcome!

Greetings fellow modelers! (And thanks for the replies!) Oh boy, more progress!
I added more details to the rear gun deck. The upper gun deck, ammo boxes, gun rails and P/E ladders from the kit P/E. The railings are from my own supply:

Amidship details:

And I began rigging the main mast:

I use UNI-Canais fly tying thread in different sizes. Great stuff - strong and easy to use. That's it for tonight, but there's lots more to come. Thanks for lookin' and happy modeling!

Greetings fellow modelers! Update time! I got the torpedo launchers painted, washed, and mounted:

I added some of the floats too:

I added the supports under the bridge and rear gun deck, and began to attach the P/E railings form my stash (there's none in the kit) :

I got the ships boats mounted. Here's the captain's gig:

And the long boat:

That's it for tonight. Next up will be thearmament, so stay tuned! Thanks for lookin' and happy modeling!

Looks good Mark,

Singlr 5.9's look pretty good, & light AA appears to be a good base for tarting up with some etched sights & seats.

Greetings fellow modelers! I'm calling this build done! May I present trumpeter's 1/350th scale Zerstorer Z-25:

And here she is next to my Prinz Eugen for a size comparison:

Thank you all who joined me on my little adventure. It was a fun build with no real problems encountered. And now, back to my Prinz Eugen!

Hi Mark,

the result looks very nice - and the final shot with the Prinz Eugen gives a nice idea of scale...

Great result all round Mark.

Excellent job on the rigging

I picked the kit at Yeovilton on Saturday, does look good, quite interesting to see some of the unused parts included.

Looks like some single 5", so maybe Trumpy have an earlier Zestorer up their sleeve.
