Well that's both sides done, (Port and starboard) now looking at the deck and another 170 more..............man not sure I can do that. Counting it all up 176 now done....

Dam that would mean I have only passed half way.... only taken me how many days..

So here is the latest update pictures. I started the deck, but have decided not to continue. I think with any water effect the effort will be lost.

Looking cool James. So, is this dio will have both U-boat and Flower Class? Also, which is sinking which?

thanks for the interest. Yes is the answer in all.

The idea is born from research to find that Corvette commanders when face with no depth charges did ram surfaced U boats. Due to the start of the build involving a corvette without a hull and to help me I choose to make BOTH items sinking. I started to starch build the hull of the corvette but found it so hard to do.

The finished diorama will have the front of the U boat on it's final moments and the crew of the corvette fighting to save the ship or even getting to safety in life boats. As you saw at the first of this thread I found some interesting pictures of part sinking corvettes.

I found some history to tell the story but it is part fiction.

Oh this is gonna be a good one to whatch!!! Love the idea James.

Cool idea, but a corvette could usually ram a U-boat and get away with it, the original design was based on a whale catcher and had ice strengthened bows. I built 3 of these kits in the past, one Bluebell, one converted to HMS Primula (short f'c'sle), the last converted like this

There is a standard corvette hull under the extra plasticard but far fewer common parts than I would have liked.
Scratch building is addictive, I think it is time for me to start again

Hooray! A Castle-class conversion! I can't wait to get to work on my conversion.

It was great fun but I had to make a few compomises, the hull is 1/2" wider has a 4" plug in the middle, the bow is longer with increased flare and height and the stern 1/2" longer and squared off. I reckon I still have half the kit, there are so many changes, the gun was AM, the Bofors ex Airfix, she originally had MkV Oerlikons but I later swapped them for Bofors,bridge,mast,funnel all scratch built. I still think it is a great kit, despite it's faults.

loving the piece you have done looks great.

In my research I found only a few badly damaged corvettes from ramming to the point of being lost. Most of the time reports where made of ramming but not of the sinking of U boats.

I have used some licence in the piece for sure.

I've got a 10% started Revell Flower Class kit that I plan on backdating to a 1942 version of the HMCS Spikenard as she looked at the time of her sinking.

I also have a Revell 1/72 U-Boat kit to be a companion display of the boat that sank her.
