Quoted Text

'Gmorning Alan, the oil dot technique In this case Paynes grey, Napels yellow, black and white. The chipping at the bow I described in the blog. Still needs some scratches and stains but very nearly there. Oh yes, nearly forgot, the smoke stains are Tamiya smoke with an overspray of matt varnish. Might add some more staining using using Vallejo smoke whisch has a more brownish tinge.

Hi Julian,
Just been trolling through your build, I love the subtle weathering you have achieved. Could you explain the oil dot technique

Hi Kevin,
its amazingly simple actually. I first saw it on the armour forums and lots of descriptions of the technique can be found by googling. All you do is break up the monochromatic look by blending dots of oil paint into the base colour with a brush moistened in artists thinner. To weather the grey undercoat I used slightly more Paynes grey in this case. The MAS still looks a bit too clean IMHO.
Fantastic work on your scratch built engines for your MAS build, really amazing work.
Cheers,
Julian

Excellent job on the MAS. I really like these Italeri boats. I've built the ELCO and am about to start on the Vosper however I am rapidly running out of room !!!

Hi Steve, that's a gorgeous Elco you built there. Didn't I see it on-line somewhere else? I seem to remember looking with some envy at your very elegant wooden mount
The MAS I built a couple of years ago, at the moment I am gathering all sorts of add-ons for the Vosper. The Elco is still gathering dust in my stash.
Space is a serious problem, of course buying AND building the Trumpeter 1/200 Bismarck didn't really do any good to the situation I am trying to resist the 1/200 USS Hornet
Cheers,
Julian

Cheers Julian,
That's opened up lots of possibilities.

Thank you for your comments on engine...lets see what the finished article looks like

You very evidently know what you are doing Kevin so you have made me a believer. Those engines will be good.
Cheers mate,
Julian
