I'm enlisted in several campaigns and this one has the closest end date, so I figured I best try and get some more work done today. I got in a nice uninterrupted session of a few hours and made some significant progress on the Indianapolis.

I've never built a ship before and I was debating whether or not to paint these parts before attaching them. I am going to use the airbrush to try and obtain a nice uniform finish. Painting that many parts with the airbrush while still on the sprue would have created serious overspray problems for other parts. If I seperated them the airbrush would have blown the smaller parts all over the bench, not to mention that it would have been a nightmare trying to keep them organized or remember their part numbers. So, I opted to attach them to the hull and I will use the airbrush on a mostly assembled model. Looking at all the nooks and crannies makes me nervous as to how that is going to turn out, but my fate is now sealed by liquid model cement! The results, good or bad, will be posted here.

Airbrush was in action tonight! Shot both the Indianapolis and the I-58. I was very pleased with the results. Used Humbrol Neutral Grey on the Indy and a 2:1 blend of Humbrol German Grey and Neutral Grey on the I-58. This is my first ship build and I am enjoying it immensely. A little hand painting, some assembly of small parts, some finishing touches, and then figure out how I want to dispaly both vessels. Things are coming along nicely!

Great build, Sean. I really like the effect you created with the computer.
After some set backs I am getting up to speed on my build again. Pictures to follow, when I made some more progress.

I had to come up with a new base for my build as the other one did not work out. However, now the Bf 109 was found its final resting place. Next is the work on the actual aircraft and then the water experiments.
More to follow.

The main painting scheme is on. Next is the decals and some weathering.
I have gone for the color scheme below, but I am taking a little artistic liberty and will not add the blotches on the side of the fuselage.

Jesper, painting it after it's in the ground?! That's tricky, but you've done it perfectly!
Nice.
-Sean H. (also, still no P-51 yet to stop your FW-190 menace! Keep watching the skies though...)

Hi Sean Yes, it was a little tricky painting it, but it came out OK. Decals have also been added now.
My FW 190 is still in the workshop, but still check your six
Next is the weathering which is going to be a challenge. I guess some fresh scrapping on the metal parts and some sand deposited on the wings.....

A little more progress. The Bf 109 is weathered and the first thin layer of water is added. It is going to take some time building up the water and get the right look.

A little more progress. The water is drying very slowly, so I kind of wonder if I will have time to build up the water by the end of the campaign. I am using the Woodland scenics water. Does anybody know if I can speed up the process with ahair dryer?

Some seriously cool projects going on and being finished here, I especially dig the aircraft! You guys helped to show me that I can effectively create a diorama or vignette of a submerged object without actually submerging it in something. I still need to pick the victim of my project, but I have a new confidence

Nice progress, Eugene. How is everybody else doing with their builds?
I have made some progress on my build. I still have some way to go with the water, but since it takes a week to dry out each layer of water the final water effects will not be done by the end of the campaign.
I am calling this one done for the sake of the campaign, but I promiss to post the final result later.
It is great to see some cool builds in this campaign. Keep them coming

Thanks, Eugene. Appreciate it.
I hope it will look even better with another half of inch or water.

I will post a picture of my diorama later when I have worked more on the "water" that takes forever to dry. Although as pointed out earlier I am calling my diorama done for this campaign.
It was a fun campaign and interesting to try some new water techniques.
