OK. After taking a break with OOB Builds for a little while, it is time to get back into the fun stuff. Here is my next Build.....

Kit Parts still in the Box.......

I am using the Two P/E Sets for this Kit from Gold Medal Models. I am also replacing the Main Turrets with Resin Items and replacing all the Barrels with Brass Barrels......

And this is the Reference Material I will be using......

Now the Fun begins.....Cheers Mark

Thanks Simon and Anthony. The Main Hull is now together and the internal Braces work well. The Hull on the other Hand is a woeful fit. Lots of filling and sanding to come.....Cheers Mark

The Main Deck has now been added and the Fit issues continue. The Deck comes in Rwo Parts with an insert for each one. This was done so that the diiferent mods to each Sistership Kitted by Aoshima can be portrayed. What this means is more Filling and Sanding that has to be done....This is called a Hobby ain't it........Cheers Mark

The Main Hull Seam has been fixed and the Main Deck is now in place. A Seam around the Bow/Deck still needs some attention. Some of the Brass Strips have sanded off in the Cleaning Up Precoess, but they will replaced with P/E Brass Strips from of the GMM Sets. I have put her next to my HMS Hood for a size comparison. More to come shortly.....Cheers Mark

OK back into her Build now. Have Base Painted the Hull and Main Deck. Beacause of her Construction and Deck Colours, all Fittings will be Painted by Hand. This will be fun. More to come soon.....Cheers Mark

Looking good Mark, always interesting to see how the Japanese designed and built their ships. What colour did you use for the linoleum decks? looks more restrained than de Cavalry brown I used on the Haruna.
Cheers,
Julian

Thanks Julien and a very Happy New Year to you also. For the Takao's Deck, I used the new Tamiya Acrylic Colour Deck Linolieum Brown. Very good coverage and not as stark as some other Colours.......Cheers Mark

Hi Mark, Those brass retaining strips do look "fun".

Are you going to toe them down after you have added them all, or did the IJN have pretty much the RN outlook on things like that, "If moves grease it, if it doesn't polish it".

Looking good so far.

I was going to ask the same question Simon. There are plenty of crewmen to send on deck with a couple rags and the Brasso though I guess. It does draw the attention to the strips though, (4 years ago I didn't know that the Japanese used linoleum on deck or that they joined the strips with Brass bars).
Looking very good Mark !

Keep at it Mark.
I have three Aoshima kits in the stash and want to see how everything else fits.
Hope you haven't had too much rain in the last few days.
Cheers

I am in Brisbane as well Mark.
I would leave those strips nice and brassy as I am sure they would have been kept in immaculate condition. And it just looks cool!
Were they cut to the right length in the GMM set?
Keep up the great work.

Very nice work - I like the colorfull and complex apperance of IJN decks.

As to the state/apperance of these brass fittings - being brass they would allmost need dayly attention to remain shiny - would they have time/oppertunity for that, or what is the most realistic approach ?

Cheers/Jan

Having been in the military having people cleaning, painting and polishing things is a great way to keep their minds of other things. They would have had more than enough manpower to polish the brass.
