Like I don't have enough to do already, I've been thinking of a possible new campaign. Next year, 2013, is the 75th anniversary of the commissioning of USS Enterprise, CV-6 (May 12, 1938). How do you think an "Enterprise" campaign might play?

It could be another of my cross-site campaigns. Any ship named Enterprise (including starships for the ModelGeek builders), any aircraft serving on an Enterprise so long as it carries markings from the ship, stuff like that. It would probably start on Jan. 1 and go to Dec. 31.

What do you all think? Too narrow for a campaign? Do you think it might draw enlistees? Just testing the waters here but I look forward to your input.

Thanks!

Including any aircraft ever serving (and marked for) any Enterprise. I'd be interested in that. And my calendar is clear after March 31, 2013 (that's 31 March in the rest of the world, of course).
Cheers!

I believe we have about 8 people expressing interest so far but we need 10 to officially get on the list. Remember, we're not talking about starting until the beginning of next year. Any other takers?

An Enterprise build sounds great! It will give me a chance to get my resin Enterprise out and build it.

Alright, it looks like we’ve reached the magic number! The following modelers have indicated interest in an Enterprise campaign:

Michael Satin – Enterprise CV-6
Sean Hadfield – aircraft
Frank
Bruce Miller – ship
Vance – aircraft
David Carlson – starship
Jeremy Coyle
Jonathan – sailing ship
Neil – aircraft
Richard Tonge

The stated build intentions are only that, intentions. I would think of starting this campaign on 1/1/13 so still plenty of time to change your minds and I won’t hold anyone to anything. Please let me know if you don’t want to participate, however, as we need 10 to get it approved by the administrators. Of course others are always welcome to climb on board!

My concept of the rules would be:

1. Any scale, any era, any modeling medium (for those wooden ship types out there).
2. Must be Enterprise related, either a vessel that bore the name Enterprise or a vehicle/aircraft which operated from such vessel so long as it was in the colors and markings of the time it so operated. Also any person who served on such vessel so long as he/she is depicted as they appeared during that time.
3. Model can be up to 10% started (for the saps like me who take a stab at starting something then put it away to start something else. I’m running out of completely unstarted kits in my collection!)
4. One year to complete the campaign.
5. Enter as many times as you like but only one ribbon per modeler.
6. Honor the 75th Anniversary of the commissioning of the most important U.S. Naval ship of WWII, possibly ever. Oh, and have fun!

How do these sound to you all? I won’t actually submit this to the administrators for a few days so chime in if you have changes, criticisms, additions, etc. And thanks for agreeing with me that this could be a cool campaign!

Hello Michael,
You only need 8 for a campaign. I changed the rules to help get campaign's going on the site.
If you get me the proposal, I will get it up ASAP. If you have questions send me a PM,
Cheers,
Bruce

If starships are included I'm in as I'll need to be building a couple anyways.

I would add 'genre' to the first rule so people browsing through the campaign page would see that it carries over into space and other realms.

1. Any scale, any era, any genre (navy, space, etc.), any modeling medium (for those wooden ship types out there).

Well, we certainly have enough interest so I've submitted the proposal. While we wait, I messed around with a possible ribbon:

and small:

I know it's kind of specific and doesn't include starships, ealier vessels, etc., but given that CV-6's commissioning is what we're celebrating it seemed appropriate. Of course, other ideas cheerfully accepted!

So will the campaign thread be in aeroscale or shipwrights, just curious. Number 3!

Thanks,

Jon,

I think, given the inspiration of the campaign, Shipwrights makes the most sense. But open to all!

Where in Iowa are you from? I'm from Davenport originally, a long long time ago.

Hello Michael,
You can put up a invite on Aeroscale and also in the Modeling in General site to get the word out.
The job has some perks

Great to see so many people sign up already. Day one and we already have 12!

I went ahead and uploaded the ribbon I showed above 'cause I hate to see a campaign in the list with a generic ribbon, but I can always change it if the crew reaches a different decision.

Hi Micheal,

From above I presume an aircraft carried by the cruiser HMS Enterprise would count?

Am looking into what she did carry, and provided that is ok and I can find a suitable kit I will be in.

Si,

Interesting thought! Yes, I should say that would qualify (as would the cruiser herself!)
