After the Varyag, something else from the Pre dreadnought era.

Ting Yuen, the Bronco Kit,

The kit is pretty complete, neat etched fret included, much of what you need, except for Ratlines.

The Kit etch and the aftermarket ratlines from Alliance modelworks also an Atworx deck.

The plastic, 5 crisply moulded sprues.

The main and secondary gun barrels are slide moulded, so I decided against brass ones for this project, especially as I am building the 1885 version, with the enclosed barbettes so little of the barrels will sow.

more once I get started.

If you like this kit, you'll love the Chih Yuen, also by Bronco. It must be a later release, and Bronco learned from their omissions, as they have included the ratlines in a very complete PE sheet.

They're not actually Chinese ships. The Chih Yuen was built in Britain and sold to China, and, I believe, the Ting Yuen was German built.

Thanks Jim, She is an interesting looking vessel, but then I have a soft spot for all the ships of the "Transitional" Period.

Yes Biggles I believe she was German built.

Quoted Text

They're not actually Chinese ships.

They're not Chinese-built, but as they were in the Chinese Navy, they were technically Chinese ships. We don't refer to the former US Navy FFGs given to foreign navies as "American ships" in the same way.

Hi Simon.
North Star Models from Russia make a PE set for the Ting Yuen that includes ratlines. I used them on my Ting Yuen...

Is a good kit and you will enjoy it.

A bit more progress,

The superstructure sections have been sprayed black, details painted. The first section of the artworx deck is added, and the small waste sections removed from the after superstructure deck, prior to be adding.

Both superstructure sections painted & decked.

Painting on the hull underway, sprayed citedal skull white first the waterline masked off the waterline, misted another coat of white to seal the maskinging and hit it with some Humbrol acrylic crimson, flowed by a dull down with a coat of Tamiya flat clear.

Quick update.

The lower hull has been masked and sprayed black.

Masking to be removed, and any bleeds to be touched up.

A bit more progress,

Masking off, and touched up. I needed brush over the after section of the main deck with a bit more black so nothing shows after the wood deck is fitted.

Hope to crack on a bit more on sunday at the Hendon model Show at the R.A.F. Museum.

More soon

Some time at the Hendon Show to make some progress. The rather complex shape f the deck meant I was not brave enough to try and lay it in one piece.

The deck down and the superstructure parts, glued down.

The deck did need a bit of a trim around the turrets to get everything to fit neatly.

main guns and their cradles painted, and the turrets and conning tower / bridge test fitted.

Thanks for looking in Julian, appreciate your kind words. She really is another joy to build.

The deck was a bit awkward to fit and needed a trim, especially just aft of the turret mounts to get the front end of the superstructure to sit square.

Thanks Mark, appreciate your support.

Hi Keith, Thanks for your kind words, the deck is self adhesive, it is only the second one I have used, both Artworx, but no issues with them lifting yet.

A quiet long weekend, so a bit of progress.

Main gun assembled and mounted. Quote a bit of work will be needed if building the version with the open gun platforms as there is basically the guns on their carriages and no other detail. I have to say this is the only weakness I have found in the kit so far.

Cupolas fitted, and a small aside, work progressing on the two torpedo boats.

Bow turret fitted along with other details on the forward section of the shelter deck.

Etched railing and ladder fitted.

A bit more progress, the decking has been added to the bridge and test fitted.

The wood deck, so far does not appear to interfere with the fit anywhere so far.
