Now owned by Round 2 Models, Lindberg is re-releasing many of their classic line of kits. After a 50+ year abscence, I thought this one was worth mentioning.

Boy,this just doesn't do anything for me.I mean odd scale, probably toy like and lacking detail.Probably just for nostalgia reasons.

I wish someone would produce a new Q-Ship in plastic 1/350 or better yet a German commerce raider.

I Found this review at an IPMS site.

Yes, toy-like in it's over all design but if you like scratchbuilding it's not bad for $15.00.

I plan on getting one (or two) just for a 'workout' model for trying new scratchbuilding and finishing techniques.

Would appear to have curiosity value only. It's a relic from another age of model building. I don't think they will set sales records with it but for $15,- it could be a base to scratch build something.

Hi Anthony,

It's not injection plastic, but we just released this:

Apparently brought out because of the upcoming centennial of the Great War, this is still a curious choice for Round 2 to release from its Lindberg holdings. I hope it generates decent sales at the $15 SRP.

What gets my hopes up is having Round 2 carry on with the other 1/72 I-boat announced years back but was unreleased. The promotional pics (unlike those for the one that was released with the kaitens) for that sub looked good.

Hey Michael!

I sent off an email to Round 2 expressing just those sentiments...let's hope they take it up.

Still, an interesting addition to certain genre.

As written in the 1/32 PT-109 review at ModelShipwrights:

The company has been purchased by Mr. Ernie Petit (former Testors CEO for fourty years) and a friend of his, and together, they plan on bringing prestige back to the Lindberg name, and having a heap of fun doing so! I've had the pleasure of speaking with Ernie about his new endeavor, and not only is he a great guy, after fouty years of heading one of the other biggies, he does know the business. In the coming months, we hope to bring you many more of these gems from our past, as well as adding some newbies along the way.

I just peaked at their 2014 catalog 2014 Models

Some of those are very nice models, e.g. the pre-WWI and between-wars aircraft:
Fairey Flycatcher British Navy Fighter,
Hawker Fury-FAF Interceptor
Martin-Handasyde
Avro Biplane
etc.

Maybe this isn't a Tamiyagawa supermodel (or even a Supermodel ) kit but I've rued the day mine succumbed to fireworks and lighter fluid: http://www.round2models.com/models/lindberg/b58-hustler

I would buy some of the others I remember because, well, they're just cool and fun!
Fulton's Clermont Paddle Wheel Steamship (this one is close enough to HO for a model railroad scene)
USS Carronade
Barbary Pirate
Civil War Blockade Runner

Sure, these aren't modern kits but they have their play - perhaps a cure for AMS (Advanced Modeler's Syndrome). I have some of these models and intend to get more someday!

I found this build by Gary Gobel over at Model Warships.

He used various photo etchings, different life boats and a copper tube and a little conversion work to make the Q-Ship a coal fired freighter.

He said he scratch built an open bridge with a sun shade to suggest a tropical locale for the ship.

Sorry, images were removed per request of Model Warships.
