Great progress here Ken! I really love the effects of your legs - never seen something alike, gerat way of rebuilding explosions! If you're going to position the Warspite as you put her on your latest update I like it very much, I think that's a good choice.

This is going to be a very nice and very special dio, I am following with close attention!

Cheers,
Jan

Hi all been doing some experimenting with the base, my choice of using blue leds was a terrible mistake, now Ive gone and hot glued them all up to make the water plumes I am stuck with them (pun intended) hopefully loads of white paint will cure that problem, initially I was getting carried away and started making them too big, till it suddenly dawned on me an inch high plume of water at 1/350 scale would be 29 feet tall in real life so scaled them back a bit.

Ken,

I agree the blue color looks off as is, but 29 ft is rather small for a plum caused by some big ordnance. If you search for some pictures e.g. the battle of the Denmark Straits, Hood and PoW vs. Bismarck and Prince Eugen, it appears that plums caused by 15" shells can be higher than the ships. I'd assume for bombs it would be similar - so that should give you ample opportunity to modify the blue color of your led's, maybe even with some mud from the seabed? Your blue-greenish color indicates rather shallow water, so that would not be all that unlikely...

Great setup with the crashing plane!

Cheers,
Jan

well at the moment it lives in the outhouse but when finished I dont know maybe I will find someone to donate it to.
just a quick question, re the aircraft guns at 1/350 would the damage they do to the deck of the Warspite be noticeable, if so how much damage would they do (I assume apart from removing a bit of paint they wouldn't do any damage to the superstructure) if the damage did show, on a run along the deck of the ship how far apart would the hits be.

Hm, so many variables to consider Ken

I wouldn't think the canon fire would be noticeable at this scale, the superstructure would have holes but they'd be so tiny at this scale it would barely be visible... How far apart depends on rate of fire and speed of plane...

so, to put my two cents in, i'd use artistic license and go with what makes you happy

I'm glad you didn't decide to sit on the fence
I did pretty much think it wouldn't show but nice to have it confirmed.

I think it'll look great whatever you chose to do Ken
Seeing the Warspite alongside the Titanic really shows up how big she was!

Very nice progress on dio & ship, nice and sharp work on the PE.

I agree with Russ, you probably would not see much of the aircraft's gun damage in the scale, no individual holes at least, but than there would be splinter damage from the near misses, so I would think lots of room for creativity

Really nice project!!

Hi all playing with the 1/350 planes this one I was going to have crash into the sea behind Warspite but I had a thought didn't some of the German pilots do suicide runs and deliberately crash their crippled planes into ships. If I did this I was thinking they would aim for most damage so I would imagine they would try for the bridge or one of the big guns and hope to hit some ammo.
If I did this would something like that have been enough to sink a ship like the Warspite. Obviously I dont want her sunk.

also here is some work I've done some work on Warspite

Ken,
this is turning out very nice!! War spite is really getting there, and I very much like the way you are doing your dio - really impressive with the LEDs and the background looks good as well!

Do you plan to modify the sea surface in the front part of the duo as well? Your wake turned out really good, but to me there's something missing still on the 'untouched' surface.

Looks really good, I like it!

Well she's nearly done now just some rails and the rigging (no idea where that goes) I can see some of it in the box atr but obviously that does not show where its anchored or anything.
got a bit of work to do on the base and the background, but definitly on the finishing stretch.

Hi all this is where I am now still a lot of little things to add so probably wont be posting any more on this for a while as the bits I need to do wont really show up much and would just be boreing, but dont worry I will still be working on it.
Will have to find someone to donate it to then as its is too big to stay here.
