Gentlemen, thanks for all the compliments and kind remarks.
I haven't jumped ship and will try and get an update online tomorrow. Mrs. Gremlin56 tripped up over a crooked pavement tile in Amsterdam and has torn her ankle which means I am buzzing round like a blue butted fly at the moment.

One reason horses are preferable to wives, if a horse goes lame, you can just shoot it!

Seriously, I hope she's feeling better soonest. Al

November 5th update:
Nothing really exciting happening, just adding brown and black oil washes to the decks. The Shermans have shipped and the waterline is being added.
In answer to Arjan's remark about brush painting: I don't consider myself to be an expert on brush painting. I do take care in choosing my paints which translates as "I buy a lot". My favourites are Lifecolor and Vallejo model air. You can boost the flattening out of the paint layers by adding flow improver and retarder but practice with them first: a little goes a long way.

Looks great Julian, the tanks really do the trick - they really bring the ship to live!

All the best for Mrs. Sallows, sad to hear about the mishap.

Looking really SUPER with the cargo deck filled.

Preiser makes 1:144 scale figure that you may
consider adding...will need some mods though,
and
a get well and speedy recovery to the Mrs.

Cheers,
Joe

Just your usual high standards
Love how it's all coming together. . .

Can you enlighten me on the flow improver and retarder, never seen them before

Cheers Kevin

It is looking great!
And to expand on Kevin's question - do you use them for airbrushing or just hand painting?

cheers

Hi Jan,
thanks and thanks for the well wishes for Mrs. Gremlin56. I found Al's solution a little bit too radical so I didn't shoot her

Hi Joe, thank you. I have a very excellent model train store about 20 minutes drive away so the Preiser figures are familiar.

Well Kev, to use them properly you have to be a rivet counter, do a nude dance in the back yard on full moon, shower angel dust over the bottles of flow improver and retarder and sacrifice a pair of matching Gerbil's to the great IPMS god, preferably before Telford
On a more serious note: The retarder lengthens the drying time giving the paint more time for mixing or flattening down. The flow improver makes the paint more "liquid" making it settle down in a flatter layer. You can mix them with the paint or with the thinner, (or add them to your own thinner, good recipes on you tube mucho cheapo).
That way you can airbrush or hairy stick things. Do practice first.
I forgot a very important item yesterday: brushes, good quality different sizes and lots of them. I'll post a pic of my current collection, it scares me

You're a great inspiration, Julian. I just ordered the kit to do a build for next year for the 'Pacific Theater' campaign that's trying to get off the ground now.

Thanks again for doing this build blog.

Thanks for all the kind remarks gentlemen, very kind of you to be so positive about my build.
I will start off by stating that you can never, ever have enough hairy sticks. This doesn't mean you have to take out a second mortgage. Buy a good collection of the high quality brushes, then check out the "Chinese markets" because these guys stock great value brushes with as their only fault tha they don't last long. After that get hold of the genuine "El Cheapo's". Finally keep checking your collection of brushes: if they get ragged use them for glue or pigments. I sometimes grab 5 or 6 brushes to get the flow and cover that looks right.
Ok, enough blurb. Deck cargo is fitted, the ghastly Revell waterline is nearly applied. Still looking too clean:

Hi Julian,

Maintaining your usual high standard

Is that a collection of brushes or a forest

I worked out once how much the forest had cost.

Russell, Jan, Simon,
thank you very much. Heres the Sunday 16th update:
I am trying to get a "Pacific faded" look with little rust, (these boats didn't reach a ripe old age in the Second World War), signs of use and a green "beard"a long the waterline.
Not there yet:
