I realize we have had submarines in both the Battle of the Atlantic and Leyte Gulf campaigns. I am looking at perhaps lete in the year to see if there is interest in a submarine campaign? Potential topics could be:

Look Out, U-Boat!
A specific U-boat type (Type VII?)
Undersea War in the Pacific

Bill,

I would be interested. Have been eyeing the Japanese I-19 which is the sub that sank the Wasp and torpedoed the USS North Carolina.

Needless to say I am biased towards the Pacific Theme or a blanket theme.

Sounds like a good idea to me! Even more so if we could pop something already started in the mix! I have a 1/72 U on the go...for a while now...any excuse to break it out would be great!!!

Oh, hey, you betcha! I'm in a state the claims one of its cities is the Submarine Capital of the World!

I would suggest that for a submarine build we have a category for contemporary boats as well.

Given the nature of the boats you can go straight of box for a smooth hulled, modern subject and get a decent looking build or do a WWI or WWII boat that cries out for aftermarket enhancements because, after all, they were essentially surface craft with wood decks, deck guns, antennas and such, that had an ability to temporarily submerge.

But if everyone would prefer 'air breather' boats only, I'm up for that too!

Gents, we're not so numerous I don't think as to restrict it to a U-boat type or even U-boats in general. We probably will have lost a lot of potential campaigners to the Battle of the Atlantic Group Build.

What about "The Silent Service"?

That would encompass anything from the Hunley to today's nuclear-powered super-subs.

If we can include things already started, I would be more interested in a "Beneath the Pacific" campaign for US, British and Japanese subs.

Ahoy Bill

I think this is a great idea.

We have also had previous generic type campaigns called "Dive, Dive" with versions 1,2 & 3 and they were very popular indeed. One of the sites originals Gary Beebe was duly honoured.

Cheers

All subs...all eras... any country.

Silent Service as a campaign title sounds good.

Hi Bill,

Silent service sounds good to me. particularly if it were to included large scale midget submarines.

Either way, definitely interested.

I may dive in on this one depending on timeframe and if I can get a couple other projects completed. My build would not be on or under water but of a sub a little ways up the road and a model would provide the perfect excuse for a visit.

A campaign entitled "Silent Service" beginning in November and running for one year (???) is in the hopper. Is anyone willing to design a ribbon?

Thanks, Joe. I am particularly partial to the US submariner's pin as having a place in any ribbon, but that's one man's idea.

Yeah, just type in 'Silent Service' under google images and you'll get a lot of samples.

Trick is to shrink it to badge size and have it still be legible.

Ok...will keep it in mind.

I'll put forth a few ideas and designs for final pick.

Hey Bill,

Odd question.
I have the Pegasus Nautilus I know it is not historical.
But would that count as an entry?

Was it designed to sink then bob to the surface again? If so then yes, it was a submarine ergo it qualifies.

Cheers

I think a fictional sub works. How about the rest of you (I know what Warren thinks)?
