Hi Bernd,
I've been following along with your build. It's looking great.

The Hood as a classic and important ship before and during WWII, you are doing a great job bringing her back to life.
I look forward to your next update.

Hi and thank you very much for commenting and viewing. Again some progress on the boat or shelter deck. The deck is ready to accept the flotilla of boats, added also some handrails.
The ammunition cases and some of the deckhouses need a slight line up. This part of the ship is really crowded with details.

Wish you all a great Sunday
Cheers

Great job Bernd.
The boat cradles on the wood deck look superb, great attention to detail.
Coming on fantastically.

Smashing job. I particularly like the railing around the stair wells leading down. Great attention to detail. Keep it going

Hi fellows, thanks for stopping and leaving all the kind comments, very appreciated. The feedback is really amazing :-)
Sadly no modelling possible today but i hope i can made more progress under the week. While my modelling shop is running, i got me an additional job, for some time.
Simon: The PE boat cradles are looking way better, than the sanded down plastic ones. There should be a third one in the middle but dry fitting was not so good, will cut the part in the half and push it gently under the boat, so much for "PlanB"
The hand rails around the downstairs came out quite nice, i hope the rest of the rails will look good as well.
Will add the rails around in the last steps to prevent any damage. The kit is very long and not easy to handle.
Wish you all a great day
Cheers

Hi Bernd,
Good plan with the middle cradle for the boats.
I tend to really cheat, and attach the cradles directly to the boat, and then fit the boat/cradle unit to the deck.
Keep up the good work, looking forward to the next round of progress.
Cheers.

Hi Bernd,
Great detailing on the deck. The etch is much finer than the plastic for sure.
I guess you are building Hood as at her demise (Is that what Trumpeter provides?). Do you know if it possible with what the kit provides to retro-fit it to how Hood was at launch?
cheers
Michael

Thank you mates for commenting, it was hard the last days not to touch her, this will be changed soon.
- Simon, thats a great idea, will try this on a later build. Sounds quite easy, if everything fits
- Michael, correct, i build the ship in her fit as sunk, or better the spring 1941 fit.
Backdating Trumpies Hood to a early fit is possible with good references and a lot of scratch building.
You need new secondary guns, a new foremast, and the boat deck must be totally changed, all the ammunition cases, splintershields must be removed, no radar ( of course)
The bridge was slightly different and you need ( depends of the wanted time frame ) an aircraft catapult, there were one on turret "B" and one on the stern.
This would be an interesting project, Trumpeter released a HMS Hood kit as "early" in 1/700, sadly they didn t scaled it up to 1/350
Thanks for viewing and commenting chaps, more soon
Cheers
Bernd

Bernd, great progress thus far. I've been following along in the background but now have a bit more interest in your build as I now hope to add a Hood to the stash soon.

Bernd, it'll be the same kit as yours, the Trumpy 1/350 so I'm sitting down taking notes of what needs doing to do this fine ship justice.

Hi Luciano, here some notes of the build, before my posting.
The seam, all around the hull ( upper und underwater part ) didn t fit too good, that means filling and sanding 75 cm seam two times.
Guess its the same with the waterline part.
There are also some fit problems in the superstructure, but nothing to stop a motivated modeller.
Details are quite nice, right oob, i recomment the WEM turrets and the Trumpeter details set.
The deck looks really nice, not really a need for a wooden deck, the seams are under the break waters, so no visible seams
I am using a Eduard PE set, the sets from WEM and Flyhawk are maybe better and more detailed, i choosed the less expensive option
If you go for that kit, enjoy the build, great ship and a very nice kit

Bernd,
The pictures of the deck you posted back in May look terriffic. It will almost be a shame to cover it up with boats!

Hello Mark, thanks for the reply and the warm words about my project, after nearly half a year Hood went back to the bench.
At the start of June live came very much in the way, so i pushed everything more complex out of the way and only finished/build some AFVs and WWII Prop fighters.
