Hey everybody. I've been doing a bit of 3D design work for a time now and I have a shop set up at Shapeways here: Mike's Model Shop. I'm looking for more projects and I'd like to know what you guys here would like to see. In terms of ships (I will eventually do some armor as well), I do 1/700, 1/350 and whatever else you'd like (yes I take requests). If I think I can do it, I'll try it.

I am looking for people to do some reviews on the products. If you would like to do a review, you have to buy the product yourself as I just don't have the money to buy review products for everyone. If you want to, contact me and I can remove the markup for a short period of time so you could buy the product at the lowest price (Shapeways' base price, I won't be getting anything from that). I will do that for the first 5 review purchases per product.

That said, I am not a professional with this program, Autodesk Inventor, and I do this as a side hobby. There are some things I just can't do, some due to limitations of the program and some just because I don't have the experience but if I think I can do it, I will try it.

So anyone have any suggestions?

I realize this may be pretty far down on your list of things to do, but there are NO figures of American Civil War sailors on the market in 1/192 . I would be interested in purchasing the rights to any you may want to develop for Flagship Models. I can provide photos. If you're interested, contact me. I produce a long line of American Civil War warship kits and I would love provide my clients with some figures in 1/192, 1/72, and 1/32 scale. Check out my web site: www.flagshipmodels.com

Unfortunately I can't do figures as of yet.

Well something I've been looking for, for a long time and hoping someone would bring out and although not ships they are in the same scale and worked with the ships namely the maritime patrol aircraft of WWII in 1/350 scale Fw-200, Ju-88, B-24 (PB4Y), B-17, B-25 (PBJ1), Wellington, Halifax and Beaufighter. Don't know if these are something you can do but I'd be interested if you did.

I know L'Arsenal do a PB3Y and PB5Y Catalina but no one does the one's I've listed above.

Very cool, I'm in need of some small parts albeit it in 1/72 & 1/48. I need some life raft containers as commonly found on ships. Need them for LCM projects. The older style as seen in the image on this site.

I can definitely do those containers as long as I have detailed measurements.

Unfortunately I do not have access to one of these, nor did I possess the foresight to photograph and measure the item so many years ago when I spent every day around these things.

The best I can do is extrapolate measurements from couple photographs I do have.
Here is what I have in the works (in 1/72 & 1/48). This is one of the images I would use to extrapolate measurements from.

Ok, do you have the rear deck finished? If so what are your measurements between the rear deck house and the beginning of the feature in front of it. I could use those measurements to gauge the size of the life raft container.

I have been basing all my measurements off the length of the vessel. Fore to aft she is 50-feet long.

The 50' Workboat has been a workhorse in Navy ports for many years, one that has stayed out of the spotlight. It is similar to the LCM(3) but has a solid bow instead of a ramp. There aren't any conversion kits that I know of for this vessel. It is not difficult however the one I am building has lab that occupies much of the cargo hold, making it somewhat even simpler.

Based on your top picture and some rough measurements/conversions, I got a measurement of about 5.2 feet in length. It looks like it might be 3 foot wide possibly?

I came up with very similar measurements. I couldn't locate any references for this Mark of life raft anywhere on line. I even went to the government liquidation site to see if they had any in DRMO. No luck there either.

I drew out - not to scale, half of the life raft container along with the measurements I extrapolated. The real thing is more "curvy" but I drew with all straight lines.

How's this?

Unfortunately I made this true to scale so this is about 57 inches long. It's going to take some time to scale down. Will you also need the supports or can you do those yourself?

I have it uploaded to Shapeways currently. It's been scaled down to 1.1875 inches long and approximately 0.51 inches in diameter for 1/48 scale. Does this sound good?

EDIT: I added a base and two supports to the model

That was quick - and freak'n awesome! I'll order couple of those. I visited the your Shapeways shop but it wasn't there yet. I'll keep checking.

Also, I submitted an idea in the Armor forum but there was no reply as to if it was doable or not. But based on this I'm guessing it shouldn't be too difficult.

Thank you. This was pretty easy really once I figured out the best way to draw it. I drew the appropriate diameter circle on a plane, extruded it and built on top of that. Then mirrored that solid to the opposite side and placed a plane on one side tangent, then drew the base and the two supports.

Ok, link to the product. It isn't visible in the shop as I haven't displayed it to the public.

Are you able to provide them in 1/72 as well?

Ok guys, I also just uploaded a set of 50 Mk.6 USN depth charges in 1/700. For this I NEED someone to take a look at it and review it. I added details that may be too small for the printer to print even in the Frosted Extreme Detail material. Like I said, if you want to review a product just message me and we can work out a time when I will drop prices to the absolute minimum so you can buy it. These pieces are tiny, about 1 mm in length. And there's 50 per sheet.

I recently uploaded 1/350 depth charges and hawsepipes along with a 1/72 life raft container. I'm not sure if the products are being shown in searches though.

Michael,

Can you produce those depth charges in 1/144 scale?

Thanks

I can. I'll have to redesign them though. The details on the drums of the 1/700 and 1/350 are minimal and won't scale up well.

The next project for me will be a set of 1/700 USN torpedoes. 22.4" Mk. 13 with and without wooden shrouds and 21" Mk 15 in separate sets. I'll also scale these up into 1/350.

Might be a bit fiddly, but I'd love to see the Royal Navy twin Oerlikon 20mm powered turret done in 1/700. They'd also be great in 1/350 too. These powered guns were fitted to most RN warships by the wars end, replacing the hand operated 20mm single and twin provided there was space. So far I have not found anyone producing them. The closest I have yet to find are the rather crude examples in Matchbox's 1/700 HMS Ariadne.
