Warren,

I echo everyones sentiment, great job. Really impressive work on the crane. From the pictures it looks like a complicated piece of work.

Really enjoying this thread.

All right, even if your updates are infrequent for now, you're clearly back to Warren-Speed and Warren-Quality of your build!!

Great progress, this truly looks like an amazing kit and build!!

Thanks for the compliments Simon, Sean, Todd, David and Jan.

I keep working on it but just don't get the time to devote to updates.

I am away from the bench for several days now but will update whenever I get a chance.

Time for another update.

I haven't been doing many updates but I have still been busy.

I have finished painting the hull after masking using the yellow vinyl stuff ..

Then I painted the boot top after painting the lower hull..

Then I attached the wooden decks. Here is a closeup but a bit washed out colour wise..

Then I painted some turrets and radar bits..

And that's it. I have painted lots of other bits and attached lots of deck bits but that can wait for now.

Cheers
Warren

Warren,

Amazing work on an amazing subject, Im somewhat partial to this ship being from Alabama and all.

Like Russell said, what is the yellow stuff, looks handy.

Is that better? Don't ask me why they were not showing up here but OK on other sites... Anyway, a small update. Flyhawk originally forgot all about the catapaults in their instructions and put some photos of totally unrelated models in instead. But I asked them and they sent me the instructions..

The small thingies are the carts the planes sit on. Then I started painting the bollards (or whatever they are called). Brass ones more scale looking than the plastic ones..

That's it. I am off to the hobby room again to continue with the superstructure that was putting up a bit of a fight yesterday afternoon.

Cheers

Did anyone else notice a large light up in the sky centred somewhere near Adelaide? If you were wondering what it was it was a massive light bulb switching on far over my head when I realised that the Pages 3 and 4 of the instructions I received are for a completely different set. I have sent Flyhawk another message and we will see what happens.

Pics are in fact showing up now Warren...and they look great as well! Love the looks of the decking! LOL...incorrect instructions...it happens! Flyhawk is pretty good about making good on this stuff. I am sure they will send you what you need. Please let me know if you run into a snag, I do have and open dialog with one of their PR people...just in case! Catapults looks fantastic as does the painting on the bollards...enjoy the bench-time!

Due to a severe lack of instructions for my Flyhawk Detail Set this build will be on hold until I can get a hold of pages 3 and 4 of the instructions. They gave me the wrong ones in my set.

Have sent an email but haven't heard anything yet.

Thanks Paul.

Unfortunately the build is stalled until I can get the right instructions for the detail set.

Well well well

I sent four emails on Saturday to two different online companies re my instruction problems,

1. Flyhawk - No answer at all. This is the third one I have sent to them.

2. The Ebay Shop I bought it from (dawngrocerystore) - It is Chinese New Year and you will have to wait until we finish our holidays.

3. Hobby Link Japan - I have bought quite a few things from this store over the years but they asked me if I had bought the set there and I replied I hadn't and that was it. Unless I had bought it there bad luck.

4. FREETIME HOBBIES!! I have bought a number of items from Freetime over the years including the 1/200 Missouri and detail set and I count Brandon as a fine fellow and big help normally. Guess what came via email today? Yep, scans of the missing Pages 3 and 4 no questions asked.

I would urge you all to buy from Freetime as I have never had any troubles with them and they are only too willing to help where other will fob you off. They have your money and that's it.

So as soon as I finish the Scharnhorst it is back onto the USS Alabama!

Cheers and thanks again Freetime!

I buy from them all the time. Their customer service is outstanding as they have help me resolve issues with orders. They did send me another person's order by mistake, a very expensive order. Using the B.O.L. I was able to contact the person who the order was for and got it resolved.

Finally got back to this project, and guess what, the barrels for the Flyhawk brass and resin 40mm bofors emplacements are missing. Don't know if they actuallt came with the set but they are not with it now.. Just gets worse..

I am just going to build the basic plastic Trumpeter versions and hope the barrels turn up..

Wow thats frustrating...

But as the missing pages turned up, so might the barrels. Stay positive, the quality of the build up to this point warrants it.

Great project, thanks for sharing,
Bryan

Finished..

Yes I know I forgot to paint inside the funnel and there a number of touchups needed, but the brass bits on the deck are staying brass as I like to remind myself there is brass there.

After the trials with this one I am not sure what to build next, Maybe nothing for a while as we are looking for a new house and moving built models is painful. And I have run out of display space for the moment.

Cheers all
Warren
