Dear Experten!

I think about optaining one kit of the wonderful MIKASA. The colorful year 1902 one from Hobbyboss would be my favourite over the pure grey year 1905 one from MERIT.

I do also think about buying one of PONTOS or KA Models DX Detail up sets. So here are therefore my two questions to you:

1) What is the difference at the ships from 1902 and 1905?
2) Which set is the more appropriate one for a 1902 ship?

Thank you very much for your help!

Cheers

Thomas

The most obvious differences were with the masts, ventilator types and small armaments.

Biggles thank you for your reply. KA-Model site state that their DX upgrade set is done that way that you will have 2 choices: 1904 and 1905 outfit - whateaver the differences are.

So I´m still guessing which ship to choose...

Cheers

Hi Thomas,
If you haven't already purchased a kit of the Mikasa, you might want to consider the Hasegawa 1/700 kits. It is discussed in the October 2017 issue of Fine Scale Modeler. One kit is a waterline model and the other is a limited edition full hull kit with lots of extras. The limited edition kit include optional parts for the ship at the Battle of the Yellow Sea or at the Battle of Tsushima.

I'm not associated with Hasegawa or FSM, I just received my issue today and saw your post so I thought I would mention it.

Hello John,

thanks for your hint; this is tempting but 1:700 is not my scale.

Best Regards

Thomas
