Thanks for your kind words Mark ! The weather today was perfect for a model boating outing and so was the location. The boat runs beautifully, I'm very pleased with the way it performs and handles, even with the outriggers fitted. For future runs I will also fit the outriggers because the boat looks so much better with them. I hope to post some better action pics in the future.

Arjan,

Loving it! She really puts out a wake and kicking up the bow. I bet you had a big smile when she took off across the water.
Great work.

Thanks Mark, you are quite right about the big smile .I think I will add two trim tabs to the transom though because the bow is lifted out of the water too much at top speed.I think trim tabs were not a standard feature of the wooden CC Fishermen at the time but no doubt lots of owners added these at some point. I found some pics of a 33 foot CC Fisherman with tabs :

Arjan,

Those action pics are terrific! Years ago I had a cheap Radio Shack RC boat, had a ball with it. Yours is SOOO much nicer. Great work!

Thanks Tim ! I've constructed an interior and the door leading to the focsle. The interior basically consists of two modules glued on a base of 0.5 mm plastic card. These two modules can be easily removed and I tried to make them as light as possible (using 0.5mm card wherever I could).I intend to fix them with some small neodymium magnets.I still have to do some detailing and touching up :

The 1/16 scale Bruder figure I used looks very stiff and toy like so I have tried to find some alternatives. There are lots of 3 3/4 inch action figures but most of these are a bit too small. I found these figures which have the same height as the Bruder figures (10.5 cm tall). I hope to add some clothing and hide the joints with magic sculpt.

Thanks for the kind words gentlemen. There are still quite a few items I would like to add in the future : swivelling chair for the fly bridge, steps for the cockpit, control panel/ steering wheel in the cabin, fishing rods and boat hooks.

The New Lindberg Line has reissued some vintage kits and I just hope they manage to get hold of the Sport Fisherman molds. I do like this kit but it's a bit too expensive in Europe :

Arjan,

I am late to find this post. I am going to build this model much the same way you have. Did you have any regrets on certain things? I to do not like the three layers to make up the aft deck. Will figure it out as you did.

Doie..

Hi Hessel,

If I had to build the kit again I would replace the two cabin sides by 1.5 mm plastic card. The original sides are a pain. I would also advise replacing the transparant plastic parts because these have become very brittle (no doubt due to their age) and they are also much too thick and heavy. Unfortunately, there are also fine pressure cracks in the clear wind screen of the fly bridge. The wind screen has to be bent slightly for a snug fit and even the slightest pressure seems to cause cracks sooner or later. So it would probably be best to replace the original part by one cut from clear acrylic sheet material or something like that.

I was afraid that the original short rudder stocks might cause leakage but fortunately, they don't and the plastic rudders prove to be sufficiently sturdy. I can recommend the rc setup I used.

I'm looking forward to seeing pics of your build ! By the way, have you got a kit from the eighties or an even older one ?

edit: come to think of it I regret having added the white plastic anti skid parts to the gangway (the pieces that have the fuel filler caps moulded in). I think these parts were a Lindberg invention because I have never seen these, or anything even remotely resembling these on a real Sport Fisherman.

Regards,

Arjan

Arjan,

Those non-slip ridges may not be prototypical, but they look convincing, and it is little details like those that help make the model look more like scale replica than just a toy. I think your Sport Fisherman looks terrific just as it is!
